Obituary of Edward Coney
Ted died on Monday, April 25, 2011 at Lisaard House in Cambrige at the age of 92. Ted was born November 11, 1918, in Sherwood, North Dakota, U.S.A. He lived on the family farm in Gainsboro, Saskatchewan for two years. When his mother and baby sister died Ted lived with his grandparents until he was seven years old. He moved to the farm and lived with his father and new step-mother until high school age when he went to Gainsboro High, living with his then widowed grandmother.
After high school Ted spent one year at University in Winnipeg followed by a time of farming with his father. He joined the Army in 1942 and spent four years in the Dental Corps. He graduated in 1949 after four years in dentistry at the University of Toronto. During this time (1947) he married Wilma Duncan of Moose Jaw and this union lasted for 39 years.
Ted was predeceased by his loving wife Wilma and son Brent who was known to co-workers at Central Fresh Market as "Brent the Gent". He was also predeceased by his mother Anna and baby sister Diana, his grandmother and grandfather Margaret and Tom Coney, his stepmother Ruby and his father Harry.
Ted was married in 2001 to Joanne Wilkinson. He is survived by his loving wife Joanne of 10 years and her family, son Daryl and his wife Agnes, grandson Alex, three sisters, Betty, Shelia and Diana and several nieces and nephews.
Ted practiced dentistry for 46 years in Waterloo. He was a member of Westmount Golf Club for over 50 years where he spent many wonderful hours golfing and curling. Ted retired from dentistry in 1995 and was very fortunate to have a healthy and happy retirement.
Friends are invited to share their memories of Ted with his family during visitation at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Wednesday from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm. The funeral service will be held in the chapel of the funeral on Thursday, April 28, 2011 at 11 am. Immediately following the service, friends and relatives are invited to the Reception Room of the funeral home for refreshments and a time to visit with the family. A private family committal service will follow at Parkview Cemetery, Waterloo.
