Emilie Klages

Obituary of Emilie Klages

Peacefully, in her sleep, surrounded by the love of her family on Saturday, April 30 in her 74th year, at the Hospice Wellington. Emilie was the beloved wife of Arthur for 50 years and loving mother of Maria, Michael (Tammy), Cristina and Arthur. Emilie will be remembered by her many friends and family for her constant caring. She is well known for her encyclopedia-like memory for remembering special occasions and sending a note, or some of her famous baking to mark these events in her friends and families lives. Emilie loved her village of Bloomingdale, and enjoyed the friendships on Salisbury Drive. Bob and Judy Reist were wonderful friends over the years, and she enjoyed sharing with Judy the happenings of both families. Susan O'Toole was a most gracious librarian who also shared her love of a good book. Emilie was a school secretary for the W.R.D.S.B. for 27 years, beginning at Bloomingdale and Maple Grove P.S. (with Mr. Carl Dahmer who showed me the ropes), and then at Empire P.S.( with Mr. Doug Schmitt who treated the staff as family, Mr. Paul Class, a true gentleman, and Mr. John Black who shared his Christian love of music with her.) Her Empire friends were many and she treasured the happy times shared with Ruth, Sylvia, Anita and all the rest of her Empire family. Emilie was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran church for her entire life. As a young women she loved to sing in their choir, and in her later years, as she could no longer always get into the church she enjoyed singing along with the hymns via their television ministry. She loved attending the German services, particularly the Christmas Eve Service. Emilie was a proud member of the Bloomingdale Women's Institute since 1970. Over the years she had been president of both the Bloomingdale branch, president of the Waterloo District Women's institute. She truly enjoyed the fellowship of the Bloomingdale Women. Recently she was pleased to be invited to be a part of the Bloomingdale United Church Women's Group. Emilie was well-known for her need to organize things, to be prepared and to compile lists of things to be done. Even at the end, she was planning for future cards to be sent and planned her personal thank yous. Emilie would like to thank many people for their love at this time. Thank you to my wonderful children for their constant care and concern. To my husband Arthur for his "Thumbs up" and Cherry Whiskey. To Judy, Ruth, Sylvia, Anita and my many other wonderful friends thank you for your love and friendship. Friends are invited to share their memories of Emilie with her family during a memorial visitation at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S. Waterloo, on Wednesday, May 4, 2011 from 4 pm to 7 pm. The memorial service to celebrate Emilie's life will be held on Thursday, May 5, 2011 in the funeral home chapel at 1:30 pm. Interment to follow in Bloomingdale Mennonite Church Cemetery. Reception to follow interment at Bloomingdale United Church, 860 Sawmill Rd., R.R. #1, Bloomingdale.
