Obituary of Gladys Huenemoeder
Passed away at Winston Park the morning of Thursday, May 5, 2011 in her 83rd year. She is survived by her brother, Howard Herter. Also, sisters-in-Law, Berneice Herter, Betty Herter, Erma Blue, and Dorothy Luft. Lovingly remembered as an elegant and caring lady by many nieces and nephews and special friend and neighbor, Cristine Freire.
Predeceased by her mother only 2 months after she was born. Her step-mother followed years later and then her father, Christian Herter, in 1966. There was one brother, Cecil, who died in infancy then her brother Jack in 2005, her brother Robert (Bob) in 2009. Her nephew, Ron Herter, passed away just this year. She also mourned the loss of her sisters-in-law: Hope Herter, Ella Mielhausen, and Betty Ann Huenemoeder and brothers-in- law, Alvin Mielhausen, Ted Luft , Clare Blue and Ron Huenemoeder . Lillian Diebel and her daughter, Cheryl, will also be held in Gladys' memory as an integral part of her life.
Born in Waterloo and raised in Hanover by the Kalte family where she met and married Morris. They were together for 44 years when Morris passed away on April 23, 1997.
Gladys worked at Seagrams Distillery for 42 years. They built the house at 220 Erb Street East, Waterloo which was their pride and joy. But, in August of 2009, Gladys had to give up the house because of complications with Multiple Myeloma which was diagnosed in 2003. She moved first to a retirement home at the Court of Laurelwood and then to the nursing facility at the Village of Winston Park.
The family would like to thank Dr. Robert Stevens and the terrific staff and volunteers at Grand River Regional Cancer Centre as well as the staff at Laurelwood and Winston Park for their care and concern.
Gladys was a member of Historic St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 137 Queen Street South in Kitchener where according to her wishes visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, May 9, 2011 and the funeral service thereafter at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Mark Hartburg officiating. Friends and relatives are invited to lunch following the service at the church.
Interment will be in Memory Gardens following the lunch.
Arrangements entrusted to Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo and memorial donations to the Grand River Regional Cancer Centre can be handled through their office.
