Obituary of Dorothy Sheppard
Following a lengthy illness, Dorothy died at the KW Health Centre of the Grand River Hospital, Kitchener Ontario, on Tuesday, June 14 at the age of 87. She now joins her dearly loved husband "Bert" (Robert F. 1976). Dorothy was predeceased by her parents Minnie (1968) and Reuben (1982) Kerr and brother James (2004). She is survived by her loving daughter, best friend and for several years care-giver Sharon (David Varley), who was with her when she died. She is also survived by her brother Frank of Miramichi, New Brunswick.
Born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Dorothy was raised in Montreal where she met, fell in love and married at the ripe age of 19. In the early 1950s Dorothy, Bert and Sharon lived in Toronto where Bert's company, Burroughs Business Machines, had transferred him. After five years the company returned him to Montreal where they lived until 1969. Bert was again promoted and moved this time to Kitchener. Dorothy and the family have lived in Waterloo ever since. Following Bert's death Dorothy wanted something meaningful to do and one day came home and announced that she had been hired as the Personnel Manager at the soon to be opened K-Mart store at Conestoga Mall, Waterloo. Dorothy, after many administrative positions thought she would enjoy retail. She spent ten very happy years there until retirement at age 65.
Friends are invited to share their memories of Dorothy with her family during visitation at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Friday, June 17, 2011, from 7-9pm. Visitation will continue on Saturday, June 18th from 1-2 pm followed by the funeral service in the Funeral Home Chapel at 2pm. Reception to follow immediately in the funeral homes Historic Kuntz House.
