Obituary of Doug Bender

After a brief illness, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at home on Thursday, July 21, 2011, at the age of 68. Beloved husband of Bernice for 46 years. Loving father of Darryl and his wife Yvonne, Lori Beam and her husband Mike, and Dale and his wife Andrea. Proud grandpa of Carly, Katelyn, Dustin, Nikki, Blythe, Avery, and Hunter. Dear brother of MaryAnn Quehl, Chuck Bender (Liz), Kathy Dietrich (Brian), and Chris Gaudet (Rick). Also greatly missed by brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents, Florence (Fischer) and Edward Bender and brother-in-law Don Quehl. Doug was the successful owner of Watcon General Contractors and more recently Bender Developments Ltd. He was active in the community and served on several committees that contributed to countless St. Clements area improvements over the years. Doug enjoyed spending his time at the cottage in Colpoys Bay with his grandchildren along with hunting and fishing. Special thanks to the wonderful nurses at CarePartners. Visitation will be held at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo, on Sunday from 7-9 p.m. and Monday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. with Parish Prayers at 8:45 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Clements R.C. Church, St. Clements on Tuesday, July 26, 2011 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Ray Reitzel C.R. as Celebrant. Interment in St. Clements R.C. Cemetery. A reception will follow at the St. Clements Community Centre. Shoot straight, keep your stick on the ice and yes, there are fish in Colpoys Bay.
