Obituary of George Schiedel
George passed away peacefully at Parkwood Mennonite Home in Waterloo on Tuesday, August 16, 2011 in his 90th year.
Beloved husband of Mary Hunsberger Schiedel. Dear father of Fred (Charlene), Phil (Annette), John (Dianna), and Andrew (Karen). Grandfather of Christine Schiedel, Allen Schiedel (Brienna), Tyler Schiedel (Bethany), Marianne Nameth (Scott), Cassandra Schiedel, Zachary Schiedel, Jodi Schiedel, Matthew Schiedel, Seth Schiedel, Ben Schiedel, and Caleb Schiedel. Great-grandfather of Rome Schiedel. Dear brother of Ed Schiedel (Ruth) and brother-in-law of Almeda Schiedel, Enos Hunsberger (Ruth), Elsie Shantz (Glen), Erma Stutzman (John), Catherine Hunsberger, Ken Hunsberger, Doras Stevanus, Paul Stevanus, Grace Shantz (Mervin), Clifford Snider (Vivian), Richard Stevanus (Dianne). George will also be fondly remembered by his many nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by his first wife, Mary Stevanus; parents, Allen Schiedel, Saloma Horst, and Laura Good; brothers, Vernus (Lulu) and Irvine Schiedel; and sister, Helen Markle (Mel).
George was founder and manager of Schiedel Construction in Cambridge for over 50 years. He was a respected member and benefactor of the Mennonite Church and broader community.
Relatives and friends are invited to share memories of George during visitation at Waterloo North Mennonite Church, 100 Benjamin Rd. (at Weber St. N.) Waterloo on Thursday, August 18 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Viewing will be available on Friday, August 19 from 10 - 10:45 a.m., followed by the funeral service at the church at 11 a.m. Pastor Ardith Frey and Pastor Matthew Isert Bender officiating. Following lunch at the church, interment will be made at Wanner Mennonite Church Cemetery, 1725 Beaverdale Rd. (at Maple Grove Rd.) Cambridge at approximately 3 p.m.
The family appreciates the considerate care provided for George and would like to extend their thanks to the staff at Parkwood Mennonite Home, and other caregivers over the past few years.
