Obituary of Margaret Strebel

Passed away at Freeport Health Centre of Grand River Hospital, Kitchener, on Tuesday August 16, 2011 at the age of 93 years. Cherished mother of Carol Vanker and her husband Peeter, and Ruth Bauer and her husband John (Dick). Loving "Nanny" to her grandchildren Mark and Sylvia Vanker (Ektvedt), Lynn Howard, Robert and Gigi Bauer, David and Terri Bauer and Virginia and Glenn Duyvestyn, and to her great-grandchildren Jenna, Jakob, Nadia, Pearce, Maxwell, Marissa, Cameron, Branden and Rachel. Sadly missed by her sister Irene Pergentile. Predeceased by her husband Frederick in 1967 and her brothers Wilfred and Clarence Schenk. Margaret's family, friends and church (St. Peter's Lutheran, Kitchener) were central in her life. She always remembered family milestones and attended many of their special occasions. She shared in many family vacations and enjoyed traveling. Her wide circle of friends included the residents of St. John's Luther Manor where she resided for over two decades. She was an ardent sports enthusiast and a competitive scrabble and card player. Margaret was a long-time member of Lutheran Church women's groups. Her quiet and friendly personality endeared her to everyone she met. She will be sadly missed by all. Friends are invited to share their memories of Margaret with her family during visitation at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Friday, August 19 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Visitation will continue on Saturday, August 20 from 10 - 11 a.m. followed by the funeral service in the funeral home chapel at 11 a.m. Interment at St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery, Kitchener. Immediately following the burial everyone is invited back to the funeral home for a time of reception and a chance to meet the family in the Fireside Reception Room. The family would like to thank all the wonderful volunteers and staff at Freeport Health Centre for the special care given to Margaret and her family during her time there.
