Obituary of John Hoey

1942 - 2011 John passed away peacefully in his sleep from Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) at Freeport Health Centre of Grand River Hospital on Thursday, August 25, 2011 in his 69th year. Beloved husband of Mary (nee Hipel) for nearly 44 years. Dear father of Janine Cain (nee Hoey) and husband Mike and Gavin Hoey and wife Laura McGilvery. Lovingly remembered by his grandchildren, Madeline and Xavier Hoey. John is survived by his three sisters, Betty Jager, Ruthe Gwynne and husband Jim, and Anne Thompson and husband John. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Keith Hipel and wife Sheila as well as his nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents, Gordon and Mary (Riley) Hoey, formerly of Alliston. John was a longtime member of Faith Lutheran Church in Kitchener and a member of the Waterloo Regional Electrical Association where he was Treasurer. He was a valued employee of Guelph Hydro (twelve years), Kitchener-Wilmot Hydro (five years), and Waterloo North Hydro (twelve years). Relatives and friends are invited to share memories of John at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Monday, August 29 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Visitation will continue at Faith Lutheran Church, 247 Westmount Rd. E. Kitchener, on Tuesday, August 30 from 1 - 1:45 p.m., followed by the funeral service at 2 p.m. at the church, with Rev. Warren Hamp officiating. A reception will follow the service at the church. Cremation and interment at Williamsburg Cemetery, Kitchener will take place at a later date. Thank you to the 6th floor staff of Grand River Hospital and Cancer Centre. We also express our gratitude for the caring staff of the CCAC and special CarePartner nurses (Jennifer and Erin) and the amazing staff at Freeport Health Centre Palliative Care. Alison is forever in our hearts. A special thank you to Dr. Bonnie McCarron for her kind and compassionate care.
