My story of Uncle Paul is full of fond memories. Thinking of him brings a smile to my face and I remember the smile he always had, he was a huge part of my life growing up with my Mom, his sister Rose. In my adult life as I was busy building my career and having children he never forgot me, he would take time out from his beloved cottage to drive over to our home and visit with our family, we remember so fondly one visit where of course he would not sit and relax but insisted on taking out our windows and washing them to a sparking shine, on that same visit he did repairs in my sons room, repairs that I could not find the time and to be honest could not do, who does that! Uncle Paul does that and was happy to do so. When my wife Chris knew Uncle Paul would be sleeping over she fretted as we did not have a "guest room" for him to stay, I told her not to worry, he was'nt coming to be entertained and of course he was more than happy to sleep in a room in the basement with a modest single bed. He made the trip to our house more than once and I only wish all our guests were like him, but there was only one Uncle Paul. Of course I remember the buttermilk and going to Audrey's family home as a kid for dinner, when they past the food I modeslty took a small scoop of potatoes not wanting to be greedy when one of her brothers asked me "how many brother & sisters do you have", I replied none, and he said, the next time that bowl comes around take some extra otherwise there will be none, coming from a family of 14 children now I know what he meant! Chris and I will surely miss Uncle Pauls Christmas Card every year. He spoke so lovingly of his girls and Audrey and always, always asked about our boys. When I made the sad trip to Kitchener yesterday to say goodbye to my Uncle I have never been so proud. The family, the friends and the presence of the Fire Department which he devoted his life to was incredible. My Uncle Paul who was always so humble, so kind and loving was being remembered and celebrated like a King. I will never forget Uncle Paul's love and mine will always be with him.
