Raised on a small farm, in a small hamlet, one of the youngest in a very large family, Catherine and her sister learned a trade after their education in a one room school house. She ventured out to the big city of Kitchener on her own, found accommodations and started her own business, "The Beauty Nook" a beauty salon. She married later than the average for the 1950s, and helped raise her stepdaughter while having her own children in rapid succession. Yet, she moved with times, she drove, she took swimming lessons and traveled with her husband. She kept the values of her rural upbringing that gave her acceptance of the hardships of life and received so much strength in her spiritual faith. Naturally elegant, radiating empathy and blessed with wonderful, intelligent humour she seemed to live her life to its fullest.

Dear Family...Catherine and Joe were good friends of my in-laws Annetta and Jerry Voll and by luck we were able to meet them too. Dave and I enjoyed a few lunches with them at our home and later visits at Lanark. However, Dave's cancer took control and he has passed away also in June. Sure they must all be visiting in heaven.
