Obituary of Arend Ruediger Baumgarten

Passed away on Thursday December 1, 2016 at Grand River Hospital, age 76 years after a brief illness. Dear husband of the late Carole Anne Baumgarten (nee Galloway); loving Father of Audrey Lynn (James) Kemp, Michele Baumgarten (Jeff Bechtel) and Opa of Bronwyn and Graeme. Brother of Elke (Werner) Stoll, Heinz Baumgarten and Henning (Esther) Baumgarten. Also survived by sister-in-law Susan Galloway, brother-in-law Arthur Galloway and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his sister Barbara Morley and her husband Dave, and Harvey Baumgarten and his wife Lynda. The Baumgarten family immigrated from Germany to Canada in 1952, where they initially settled in Toronto, Ontario. Later they purchased farmland in Howick Township, which became the basis of Driftwood Beach Park campground. Arend spent the last three decades as owner and operator and was dedicated to building a future there for his family. The Baumgarten family and many others have enjoyed the Park for years – Arend was well known as a gracious host to the guests at Driftwood Beach Park and family and friends who frequently dropped by to visit. He will be greatly missed. Cremation has taken place and a private family Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
