Obituary of Frederick Schlegel

Fred passed away peacefully at the Seaforth Community Hospital on Friday, December 23, 2016 at the age of 84. Devoted father of Sandra Dolson (Ross) of Waterloo, Carl Schlegel (Lori) of California and Paul Schlegel (Heather) of Kitchener. Beloved Grandpa of Jamie and Cody Schlegel, Michael (Andrea), Andrew and Brendan Dolson, and Kaitlyn Schlegel. He was the cherished companion of Wilhelmina Hoornaert and will be sadly missed by all of her family. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Gertrude Niereisel (Bruno) and Monika Shiels (Barry) and will be fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Edeltraud (nee Welker) in 2004; and by his brother, Emil Schlegel and sister-in-law Ursula Schlegel. Born December 29, 1932 in Ukraine. Baptized January 14, 1933 in Eigental, Ukraine and confirmed March 22, 1948 in Todenbuttel, Germany. Retired after more than 40 years of service with Westons Bakeries Ltd. Friends are invited to share their memories of Fred during memorial visitation at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Thursday, December 29, 2016 from 2-4 p.m. and 6–8 p.m. The memorial service will take place at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 322 East Ave., Kitchener on Friday, December 30, 2016 at 11 a.m., with Rev. Nolan Astley officiating. A reception will follow the service. Cremation has taken place and a private family interment will be held at St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery in the spring.
