Condolences to the family; I never did get a chance to meet James as I have just now began looking for my family. This would be my grandfather, as I'm the daughter of Kevin Horsburgh. I would have loved to have meet, maybe one day we will. May you rest in peace.

I am so sorry I missed the celebration of Jim’s life, and that I am late posting here.
One measure of a man is the family he raises. Margaret, Susan (Daffodils), Pam and Kevin are testament to the quality of this man. My memories are of his quiet wisdom and wry sense of humour.

Dear Uncle Jim;
Of all the many, many uncles I've had in my 59 years (all of which were a blessing) you had a very profound effect on me, probably without knowing it at all. The corner stone of this would be what I always referred to as "your quiet wisdom".
The summers I spent with you and Aunt Laurie at the farm were an important life lesson for me and I did not know it at the time.
Watching you attending to "the little things", mending a fence, the tractor or hole in the barn and just letting me follow you around was something to behold for a young child.
Teaching me the importance of keeping my distance from those things that could be harmful but adding the encouragement to only fear those things you do not understand and that the only way to over come those fears was to better understand the things I came into contact with has been a lesson not lost on me all these years.
You, watching me drinking a coke, then asking "you really like that don't you"? "Yea, a lot" I said. Then you took me into your work shed, grabbed a VERY rusty nail, poured a little of my coke into an old can and said "have a look at that nail in the morning". Then silently walking away.
I ran there as soon as I was dressed the next morning and the nail was shinning - the rust was gone! No more Coke a Cola for this kid. And it pretty much has stayed that way today (sometimes but not often).
Thank you for everything Uncle Jim. For all the lessons and for all the wisdom.
May you rest in peace.
My love always Ollie Nelson

I have very fond memories of life on the farm with Uncle Jimmy and Aunt Laurie. Their quiet wisdom, humour and a great deal of love always made me feel special. They taught me to walk my own path and not follow others to be accepted. Uncle Jimmy told me I was beautiful in my own right. This was quite a gift to a young girl that was so unsure of her world. My thoughts and prays go with Aunt Laurie, Margaret, Susan, Pam, Kevin and their families. Uncle Jimmy was a wonderful man and he will be missed.

Love you Uncle Jim. Miss your rare sense of humour and your funny grin. You taught us to laugh at ourselves and that hard work never hurt anyone. Sending my love to all of the family.

I have so many wonderful memories of holidays and weekends spent with Uncle Jim, Aunt Laurie, Margaret, Susan, Pamela and Kevin.
I learned to ice skate on the pond that Uncle Jim loving kept ready for the kids, unload baby turkeys for the new barn and pick raspberries for Auntie Laurie’s amazing jam.
Uncle Jim liked to tease and it took me a long time to figure out when he was serious and when he was just being mischievous!
RIP dear Uncle Jim. I’ll carry you in my heart until we meet again.
Love Ellen Marie, Spencer & Fraser xo

Dear Aunt Laurie and Family; please accept the heartfelt condolences of all Nelson family members who knew and loved Uncle Jim. Such a character from our perspective; that quiet Uncle with a twinkle in his eye and a smoke dangling from hip lips, in the old days; sharing a fishing or hunting tale with us (usually the long, long version), or showing us how to clean and gut the hundredth turkey of the day (yuk !) at the Alliston farm.
The Horsburgh family is so fortunate to have had such a calm, dependable, hard working person in their lives to learn from, admire and look up to; as all of us have done for so many decades. Of course none of this would have been possible Aunt Laurie, without his wonderful wife at his side through thick and thin. May God bless, watch over and comfort Uncle Jim in the great beyond. Best wishes to all !! Paul, Janis, Mary, Hank and the entire Nelson "Crew" xo

RIP Jim. My brother-in-law, my friend, my mentor, my father figure since I was eleven years old. You taught me honesty, respect of family and many other qualities. You instilled in me a work ethic responsible for any degree of success I had in my business career. I will miss you and love you for ever. God Bless you and keep you. Boyd
