For you, Mom:
This is tough, but I'll try.
Ladies, gentlemen, family, relatives, friends, classmates, neighbours, bosses, co-workers, acquaintances...
Where to end? Mom had them all.
She had some pretty tough sledding in childhood and adulthood, but persevered and was the cement that kept a lot of things together.
I must say that I started composing this eulogy quite some time ago, but quit - couldn't write it with Mom still on Earth. Then, occasionally, I hoped that I would die before her so that I wouldn't have to do this. But, that was selfish of me, and I put that thought to rest. The Good Lord knows that if she heard me say that, she'd have washed my mouth out with Ivory soap. Again.
Our Mom was, and is, an inspiration for us all. She never complained or whined, and played the cards that she was dealt. She was an awesome woman in all respects and taught the "3 Little Rascals" well. We can all feel blessed that she was in our lives, and touched our hearts during her long life.
Truly - our "Lady in Red"
Rest in Peace, Mom

We are deeply sorry for your loss. Dorothy was a fabulous woman whom we will all miss so dearly. We will remember her excitement about her red dress and how it made her so happy every day in the last months of her life. She touched the lives of many of the staff and residents here at Hertiage House. Her legacy will live on in our memories forever. R.I.P Dorothy.

Katelin Becker posted a condolence

Eulogy by granddaughter Katelin Becker, for those who could not attend Dorthy's funeral:
I know if I read this myself, I’d cry. And it’s not crying that I see as being wrong, but I don’t think I’d get through what I am about to write. So I thought of a really good life-long friend of Grandma’s – Sister Gloria to read this.
This is her grand-daughter, Katelin Becker writing this:
I’d like everyone to know that Dorothy is someone who never complained. I’ve been to a couple of funerals where people got up to speak and said that so and so never complained. And every time I thought to myself, “Really? They never complained? That’s hard to believe.” But honestly, my grandma never complained. She had many great friends and went traveling a bit, but she really did have a hard life. Basically, a single mother raising three children, and money was tight. Then in her later years, she got pneumonia, a blood clot in the leg, and an E-coli infection all at the same time. The hospital was very terrible and mom said it’s amazing she ever survived that. She moved a few times and for the last four years she lived at Heritage House in St. Jacobs. She started in a semi-private room and then got a private room. The private room was still very small. She went through a lot of sickness and hard transitions lately. And still – she never complained.
I could go on and on talking about her but I also wanted everyone to know this – You probably seen or heard about Dorothy’s red dress. All she wanted for Christmas was that red dress. When she spoke of it, she had a bi smile and her eyes were so bright. The thought of having one made her happy. I just know it made her day when my mom walked in her room and showed her the red dress she bought. That red dress, that’s all she wanted, and she passed before she had the chance to wear it. She always stayed positive and that’s one of the many ways I look up to her – so looking at the bright side of this situation, I think, “How fitting it is that she wore the red dress when God called her home!”
