Obituary of Shirley Doreen Weber
WEBER, Shirley Doreen (nee Brown) entered the presence of her Lord and Saviour on January 12, 2017 at the age of 84. A life-long resident of Kitchener, at the age of 16, Shirley met the love of her life, Jack. They were married a few years later and together, for just shy of 50 years, lived a full life building a business, contributing to the community, travelling the world, and raising a family.
In her earlier days, Shirley oversaw the candy striper program at KW Hospital – an achievement that she always reflected upon with pride. Both Jack and Shirley were active in Rotary, Jack as a Rotarian and Shirley as a “Rotary Ann”. As a Rotary Ann, Shirley enjoyed driving children to appointments at The Rotary Centre (now known as KidsAbility). This organization, in particular, remained close to her heart until her passing. She and Jack were awarded Paul Harris Fellows for their support of Rotary’s work including The Rotary Centre and the student exchange program back in the 70’s.
Shirley loved summering in Muskoka and wintering in Florida. When Jack passed in 2000, Shirley carried his memory with her knowing one day, she would be reunited with him.
Shirley will be missed by daughter, Wendy (Jamie) Buder, and sons, Randy (Linda) Weber and David (Jane) Weber as well as her grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Dayna (Nico) Giorgio and their children Matteo and Noelle; Aaron Buder and his son Damian; Alex (Amie) Weber and their children Loghan and Jaxon; Matthew (Synie) Weber; Zachary (Blaire) Weber and their children Jack and Harrison; Christopher Weber and Benjamin (Dianna) Weber. Shirley was predeceased by her parents, Carl and Lillian Brown; her brother Keith (Olive) Brown; her husband, Jack; her grandson Joshua Weber; and her great-grandson Dimitri Murugesu Buder.
The family extends their utmost gratitude to the staff at University Gates for the care, respect, dignity and friendship Shirley experienced during the past year.
To celebrate Shirley’s life, the family will receive those wishing to pay their respects on Saturday, January 28, 2017 from 10am–11:30am at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo. A service to celebrate her life will be held for family and friends in the funeral home chapel following the visitation, with Rev. Stephen Weber officiating. A reception will follow in the Fireside Room of the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that expressions of sympathy be made through donations to the Jack & Shirley Weber Family Endowment at KidsAbility Foundation to continue the invaluable work for children and youth with special needs. Donations can be made through the funeral home at www.erbgood.com or 519-745-8445.
