Obituary of Dr. John Bain
1931 - 2017
Passed peacefully on Thursday, January 19, 2017 at the age of 85.
Loving husband of Jean for 59 years; father of John (Sue), Doug and Laura (Gus); father-in-law to Cindy; grandfather of Aidan, Nicole and Brendan; predeceased by sister Jenny and brother Allan.
John graduated from the University of Glasgow with his Doctor in Medicine in 1955.
He left his hometown of Dumbarton, Scotland with his ever supportive wife for a new beginning in Canada in 1967 but was always proudly connected to his Scottish roots.
He served Kitchener-Waterloo with distinction as a Family Physician from 1967 until 2011. He dedicated himself wholeheartedly to the practice of medicine from which he derived great joy in the service of others from delivering babies to caring for his “old dears” at the nursing homes. He practiced and lived the aphorism: “to cure sometimes, relieve often, comfort always.”
John can now take comfort in knowing he left the world a better place by touching the lives of countless patients, colleagues, friends and his loving family with his dedication, wit, humility, faith, compassion and gentle soul.
He will be dearly missed but we can take comfort in knowing he is cared for and in the arms of The Lord.
The family are thankful for the kind care provided to him by the staff of University Gates nursing home as well as the nurses and physicians of St. Mary’s Hospital.
A private service in celebration of his life will be held at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home.
Condolences for the family and memorial donations to the St. Mary’s Hospital Foundation, Kitchener may be arranged by contacting the funeral home at www.erbgood.com or 519-745-8445.
