My mother, Jean Hart, was one of Peter's students many years ago. When she passed away two years ago, he contacted me and I so appreciated his kindness. His loss will be felt by the many, many lives he touched with his generous heart.
May God comfort you in your time of mourning.

On behalf of the New Hamburg Mennonite Relief Sale posted a condolence
Monday, September 4, 2017
We at the New Hamburg Mennonite Relief Sale are saddened by the news of Peter's passing. Know that our thoughts and prayers are with you.
Peter was a long time contributor to the Relief Sale. Years ago his paintings were a regular auction item at our Sales. Two years ago we approached Peter to ask him if he would paint one more picture for us. He said he had never painted a picture of the Sale itself, and he would be pleased to paint and donate a picture of the quilt auction. The result is a stunning, vibrant picture of the auction, where many of us feel we recognize the faces of the participants, and it captures the energy and excitment of the quilt auction. Peter's parting gift to us will long remain in our hearts and minds as a symbol of his caring and love for the good in this world.
My God be with you.

My condolences go out to the family for your loss of such a talented and caring man. I came to know Peter through my sister-in-law, Betty and her husband, Steve Horuci, in Waterloo, who forwarded an article about Peter to me in New Hampshire. I studied under Peter in my quest to loosen up my painting style. He was always so willing to teach me everything he knew and did so with such kindness. He made studying via the internet enjoyable and I always looked forward to his emails. My husband, Joe, and I had the pleasure of meeting Peter over coffee with my family a few years ago during one of our trips to Waterloo. I have in my possession, the book he illustrated so beautifully, which he brought with him that day. The artwork that he created is alive with his personality - his soul work. He lives on through those whose lives he has touched and through his work. He will be sorely missed. I will think of him as I paint in the studio or en plein air. Godspeed.

I met Pete through my father, Russ Charbonneau, at The Duke. Whenever we were in KW we tried to get to the pub and enjoy a beer and conversation especially if Pete was there!! We have fond memories of Pete, his humour and his warm, open spirit. So sorry for your loss.

We will long remember Peter - for pieces of his vibrant art hang on our walls.
It was always a pleasure to chat with him when he was working onsite at a plowing match, Royal Winter Fair or his gallery store ( a regular stop when we were touring visitors- we miss it.)
We are thankful to Peter for celebrating our area of Ontario in such a beautiful, lasting way.
His work is a wonderful legacy - but he will be missed.
Our sincere sympathy.

It is with sadness we read of the passing of Peter Etril Snyder. We have long admired his paintings and have several collector plates with his renditions of the Mennonite life. A huge loss to all your family and to the art world.

I am sorry to learn of Pete's passing, Marilyn. My thoughts are with you and family at this sad time. Special memories come back of the many Early Christmas gatherings at Gord & Doris Reier's home- where friends enjoyed each other's company. There were lots of stories shared, many from Pete, laughter, and delicious food. Those times remain vivid in my mind when recalling Wayne and my time living in K-W.
Sincerely,
Frances McClure

My deepest sympathies to Marilyn and Peter's extended family. I shall never forget our 6 a.m. walks at the Waterloo Rec Centre. Whether it was a cold and snowy winter morning or a pleasant spring day, I could always count on both of your smiling faces to be there. My conversations with Pete, as we walked, were filled with light chatter, humour and serious discussions. I respected his opinions and learned a great deal from him. After an hour, he would say "my bride is finished, time to go". A talented artist and a wonderful man who will be greatly missed.

Although my discussions with Pete were primarily through emails and communications with his niece Cynthia during the development of his website, Pete's easy going nature and appreciation are characteristics that showed through.
I am so honoured to have had the chance to be part of preserving his legacy.
Viewing his body of work and reading about this amazing man and the things he has accomplished in his life was inspiring. It was and is a reminder to do what you love and live life to the fullest!
The love he had for his family and in particular, his wife was touching.
I am so pleased to own several of his paintings some of which are from his travels in Costa Rica where my late husband and I got married. I will cherish these forever.
My prayers go out to his wife Marilyn to Cynthia and the entire family at this difficult time!

Dear Marilyn: Blessings to you, as you face a new chapter in your life, without your beloved Peter. He was certainly an extraordinary man who had many talents and used them to the best of his ability. Such generosity to the community is rarely seen. I often came to the store on Erb St. and spoke with him about his many paintings. I also display many of them in my home, and also in the home, that I now share with my new husband.
Hang on to the happy memories that you both made together. My prayers are with you and may you experience His peace as your journey along a new and uncharted journey. Joan Stapleton McLean

My condolences to Peter's family and friends. I met and worked with Peter on a very small part of the dinosaur picture that hangs in the University of Waterloo, He was looking for information on the small flying dinosaurs and I had the info. He was a delight. We shared some good laughs and had a great chat regarding artistic endeavors. He will be missed. May he keep painting the world in brighter colors.

The world lost a little colour with Peter's passing. I had the honour of working for Peter and Doug thirty years ago. It was an exciting time as he and Doug grew the business; a book, business commissions, and incredible watercolour florals after a trip to England - always something new to try. My husband and I are fortunate to own both original oils and a commissioned watercolour as a lasting memory of his talent. Sincere condolences.

Dear Marilyn and Doug,
I'm so sorry to hear of Peter's passing. Although I was aware of his long-time health issues, his death still comes as a shock. I have many very positive memories of Pete, from the first time I met him and Doug back in the mid-'80's, when we worked on one of his print catalogues. His buoyant, boyish persona made a big impression on me from the start. Our paths crossed and re-crossed over the years, and his positive charm never faded. Pete was one of those who helped bring a sense of beauty into a sometimes ugly world. For this, I am grateful.
My sincerest condolences on your loss. It is a loss both on the personal level and a loss to the community at large.

Peter, I don't know how I will get through my days without our multiple daily email chats. Your emails made me laugh, cry, angry and sometimes blush! You were my hero and motivation to carry forward through my personal blood cancer journey with grace, dignity and humour. You were my friend, my inspiration and my cancer BFF. My life changed for the better when you let me in your private space and we shared our journey together. Rest well my friend. You were so loved by me and I know you will keep guiding me through. Peter, how you will be missed. We so enjoyed meeting up with you at the Duke to share a beer ( or two ) and many many laughs. You had a dry sense of humour that was always there at the ready and it made for some very lively and extremely funny banter. Good times that we will have in our hearts and minds always.
You always had so much to give and when our kids came to the Duke you were so genuinely interested in what they were up to. So much so that you would continue the conversation through email long after the Duke chat. They loved hearing from you and would send you updates on their accomplishments and you would promptly respond with words of encouragement and praise.
The Duke has not been and will never be the same without you. We will miss that devilish quick wit of yours, something we looked forward to when we were fortunate enough to meet up with you for a beer.
Rest in peace Peter, you fought so bravely.
