Obituary of Alfred Charles Preiss
It is with sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Alfred Charles Preiss (Alfie) on December 8, 2017 at the Westmount Long Term Care home in his 90th year.
Survived by his wife of 66 years, June (nee Dietrich), daughters Susan Brubacher (Douglas) and Martha Sherry Kibbler (Paul), grandchildren Ryan (Lauren), Russell (Lisa) and Laura (Ben) and great-grandchildren Kyra, Olivia, Hunter, Gage, Logan and Sawyer.
Alfred was the only child of Charles R. Preiss (1969) and Martha Thaler (1985). He had fond memories of being raised by his paternal grandparents in Erbsville. Alfred lived and worked most of his life in the Kitchener-Waterloo area.
Alfred’s early love of driving and owning cars grew to include driving taxi cab, working as a chauffeur, as well as driving school bus for Charterways/Laidlaw for many years. Alfred was also self-employed as a laundry repair serviceman. When he wasn’t working, Alfred enjoyed time at the cottage, taking cruises and socializing with friends.
Alfred had high expectations for himself and his family. He challenged us to be self- sufficient, hard working, frugal individuals who could take pride in our accomplishments. Alfred was a good man who shared his time, talents and resources with the people and things that he loved and cared for.
A memorial celebration and reception will be held in the Fireside Reception Room of the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Saturday, January 20, 2018 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
The family would like to express our thanks and gratitude to Alfred’s extended family at Highland Place Retirement Home and most recently at the Westmount LTC home. Your care, support and friendship maximized Alfred’s quality of life despite his many health challenges.
As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations to St Mary’s General Hospital Foundation or condolences for the family may be arranged at www.erbgood.com or by calling 519-745-8445.
