Obituary of Kenneth Crawford Hague
Ken Hague passed away peacefully on Monday, January 29, 2018 approaching his 90th birthday.
Predeceased in 2013 by Daphne, his wife of 62 years and his younger brother Edward in 2016, Ken is survived by his sister Elizabeth in Vancouver.
Loving father of John (Suzanne), Kenneth, David (Bridget), Gordon (Wendy) and Nancy Long (Derek). Grandfather of Christopher (Amanda), Matthew (Matthew), Daphne, Philip, Melanie, Katherine Homuth (Zak), Rachel, Allison, Natalie, Sarah Greenaway (Bryan), Steven and great grandfather to Arianna and James. Also sadly missed by many nieces and nephews.
Ken grew up in Montreal where he attended Lower Canada College and McGill University. Graduating from McGill in 1950 with a degree in mechanical engineering, Ken very proudly wore his iron ring throughout the rest of his life. His business career included many fine achievements notably his involvement when at Tamper Limited in the early 1960’s with the construction of the Montreal subway system.
Ken was a very keen skier. Captain of the ski team at LCC in is senior year, he continued while a student at McGill. On a ski weekend in the late 1940’s he was lucky enough to meet Daphne Stethem at the Big Hill at Shawbridge. Ken married Daphne in 1951 and the family started to grow almost immediately with the arrival of John and Kenny in 1952. Ken and family lived Chatham, Montreal, Toronto and Waterloo. The summer focus was always a lovely old summer home on Lac Manitou where Ken, Daphne, children and grandchildren had many memorable times. Never one to rest, Ken built a cabin for the kids which is still being used today.
Ken retired in 1984 in Waterloo where he and Daphne chose to stay. Ken did many things becoming an accomplished carpenter and cabinet maker. Most important to him was that Warrington Drive remained the center of family activities for children, grandchildren and eventually great grandchildren for many years.
After Daphne’s passing in 2013, Ken moved to Terrace on the Square in Waterloo where amongst other things he was able to use his amazing knowledge of old chants, songs and hymns to challenge the resident piano players. Getting old is not easy but Ken approached this part of his life with a keen appreciation of his past experiences and the wonderful family and many friends he continued to enjoy.
A memorial visitation will be held at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo, on Monday, February 5, 2018 from 1 to 1:45 p.m. A Memorial Service to celebrate Kenneth’s life will follow in the funeral home chapel at 2 p.m. A reception will be held in the Fireside Reception Room.
