Obituary of Gerard "Gerry" Stemmler
Gerry, also nicknamed “Curly”, “Turkey”, “Charlie”, “Chief” and “Banker” died at home, peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Sunday, February 11, 2018 at the age of 76. Gerry battled cancer for 16 years.
Loving husband of MaryAnn (Hinschberger); proud father of three sons, Kevin (Sabine), Shawn (Liane), Terry (Lisa); and Grandpa to Aaron, Devan, Megan, James, Chelsea, Abby, Jeremy and Lisa. Son of the late Simon and Arilla Stemmler. Brother of Mary (Bob), Gladys, Joseph (Karen), Anne (Terry), Theresa (Wilfrid), Joanne, Daniel (Carolyn), Bernadette (Gerald), Charles (Kathy), Jane, and Paul (Judy). Brother-in-law to Herb Runstedler, Doug Hinschberger, Janet Moller, Rita Stemmler, Eve Quarg, and Jean Sehl.
Predeceased by brothers William, John, David, Michael; sisters Agnes and Irene; brothers-in-law Sylvester, Archie, Gary, John, Frank, Bob; and sisters-in-law Fern, Vaughan and Betty.
Gerry was founder of Stemmler Meats and Cheese in 1985 and transitioned ownership to his sons in 2003. He continued working until age 75. He enjoyed working with his sons and talking to his many customers. He gave generously to local charities and cared greatly about his local community. Gerry adored all his grandchildren and loved to spend time with them. A special thank you to Dr. Dicu, Dr. Jakda, Dr. Penhearow, Trudy Rose, and all the nurses in the Cancer Centre for their kindness. Thank you to the CCAC for 16 years of special care.
The Stemmler family will receive relatives and friends at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Wednesday, February 14, 2018 from 6-9 p.m. and on Thursday, February 15, 2018 from 1-4 and 6-9 p.m. Parish Prayers will be held on Thursday at 3:45 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Clement RC Church, 3619 Lobsinger Line, St. Clements on Friday, February 16, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. A reception will immediately follow at the St. Clements Community Centre. Spring interment at Saint Clements RC Cemetery, St. Clements.
