I don’t think I can visit the New Hamberg Quilt Auction & not imagine Reta, Mabel, Aleda, Olive sitting all day waiting for their quilts & the feature quilt to be auctioned off. I know they were already planning their entries for the next year!

I have many wonderful memories of my special Aunt Reta. I admired her adventurous spirit in traveling to so many exotic locations in the world, her colourful and tasteful fashion sense and her love of flowers. I enjoyed seeing her gift of flower arranging at Erb St. Mennonite Church, my home church each Sunday. Having lived in other parts of Canada for the last 40 plus years, I also enjoyed meeting Aunt Reta and my aunts for breakfast at the Stone Crock in St. Jacobs when we visited our Ontario family. We would also meet for breakfast with Aunt Reta on Sunday mornings at Coffee Tyme after church. Our last visit with Aunt Reta was in May of last year. We had a wonderful conversation about politics and enjoyed her playful sense of humor. Rest In Peace Aunt Reta.

Aunt Reta was a very special aunt She enjoyed taking her nieces and nephews on outings. We made a trip to the CNE in Toronto every year I remember being so excited that I could not sleep the night before For a country kid to go to the city was a big deal.She enjoyed challenging us to be the best we could be. One of my favorite times with Aunt Reta was our weekly visit to the Stone Crock Restaurant on Saturday mornings We met almost every week with Reta and Alexa. We discussed the latest quilt patterns,the sports teams such as the Blue Jays and Toronto Maple Leafs. I think she was on the first bus trip to see the Skydome when it opened She Also tried out a new restaurant the first week It opened to see what it had to offer.She also visited the Waterloo library every week to get new books She was always on top of the news and read daily She enjoyed her work at Mutual Life and stayed in touch with many of her friends there.It was her employer for most of her working years.She was very excited that I got a job there just after she retired.Reta will be missed and I will never forget all that she did to inspire me and encourage me in many areas of my life.
