Obituary of George McKay
Passed away unexpectedly at home on Sunday, April 8, 2018, four days before his 82nd birthday. Beloved husband and best friend to Donna McKay (nee Kelly) for more than 55 years. He leaves behind Donna, along with a fun-loving, camping, cottaging, skiing and adventure-seeking crew of children: Kelly and Jim Millard of London, Ontario; Kerry and Scott Dixon of Mount Forest, Ontario; and Paul and Bridget McKay of Brookville, Ontario. Lovingly remembered and missed by his seven grandchildren: Jessica, Josh, Noah, Isabel, Jaikie, Lexie and Callum. Remembered by his big brother Jack McKay, and his wife Marj of Sarnia, and his brother-in-law Larry Kelly, and his wife Jeanne of Kitchener. Loveable Uncle George to many nieces and nephews. Pre-deceased by his oldest brother Bob McKay of Leamington, Ontario, his parents George and Cassie McKay of Wyoming, Ontario and his parents-in-law Jim and Lorene Kelly of Kitchener, Ontario.
George taught high school for 33 years throughout which he gave generously of his time and was actively involved in supporting many student activities, including the creation of the JDSS ski club in Hanover. As successful as he was in his teaching career, he may have surpassed that success with his love of retirement. He cared deeply for his family and his communities and lived life with a passion that will be hard to match. He was always smiling and laughing and is remembered for hitting the ball the farthest, cheering the loudest for his grandkids and for telling stories to all, especially over a beer. He made friends instantly wherever he went.
We will always love you and miss the mischievous twinkle in your eye.
