Maria always was a smiling encouraging person even when i am sure she did not feel up to it. I cannot think of anyone who knew her even if it was only a “hello” who did not immediately like her. We think it was her maybe a couple of years ago that taught some of us planking we asked if anybody knew what planking was and she said sure she did and would show us when the regular class was over and she did. Maria always teaching us oh yes with a smile.

Maria was a very important person in our lives in the early 1970’s after wemoved to Ottawa. Maria and her ex-husband, Klaas gave us rides to OMC, invited us to their home for Christmas the first year after we were married, and frequently invited us for lunch on Sunday. We felt included in their family. They took us to Quebec City. Just today on “Pay it forward day” we were reflecting on being given $20 by them when we had very little. Our condolences to your whole family.

I only met Maria after she had moved away from Ottawa, but she was always such a strong and interesting presence. I always wished I had had the chance to get to know her better. The obituary only made that feeling stronger. May God comfort you with beautiful memories and the love she shared with each of you as well.
