John Staller

Obituary of John Staller

Passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on Monday June 25, 2018 three days after his 89th birthday.  He is predeceased by his wife Helen (2010), his parents Anton and Francis Staller, and his sister Teresa.  He is survived by his 3 sons Anthony, Andrew (and Laurie), Jeffrey (and Stella) and his 4 grandchildren, Jessica, Haley, Joe and Jenna.  He is also survived by his sister-in-law Martha Hofstetter, and his brothers-in-law Jim and Alec Janzen.

John was born June 22, 1929 in Regina Saskatchewan but his family moved to Waterloo Ontario in 1937.  He became a Firefighter in Kitchener in 1954 and became Fire Chief of Waterloo at the young age of 38 – the youngest person ever to be promoted into that position.  A pillar of his community, an involved member of his church, a great athlete, a faithful Husband, an outstanding Father, a loving Grandfather . . . and an all-round great guy.  John was an example and an inspiration to everyone around him.

John’s family will receive relatives and friends for visitation at Erb & Good Family Funeral Home 171 King St S, Waterloo on Friday June 29, 2018 from 2pm – 4pm and from 7pm – 9pm.

The funeral will be held on Saturday June 30, 2018 at 11am at Waterloo Kitchener United Mennonite Church, 15 George Street in Waterloo (minutes walking distance from the funeral home) with a reception to follow.

The Staller family wishes to thank John’s caregivers, Rick, Donna and Kelly for their outstanding care in the last days of his life, allowing him to pass away at home with dignity.

Condolences for the family and Donations can be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association and to the Mennonite Central Committee through the funeral home at www.erbgood.com or 519-745-8445.
