Anne-Marie was the best friend the Friends of the Joseph Schneider Haus ever had. Her 35-year corporate memory was impeccable. No inquiry was too small; no detail, too insignificant. Nothing escaped her attention. She genuinely brought her best to the Haus every day. She could locate anything, anytime, anywhere, whenever asked. She was honest and forthcoming. Engaging. Nobody ever laughed at my jokes the way Anne-Marie laughed at my jokes. Kind. Generous. Nobody ever anticipated the needs of the Friends the way Anne-Marie anticipated those needs. Thoughtful. Empathetic. She frequently rallied the assistance of her mother and her sisters to volunteer with various projects at the Haus. Resourceful. Thrifty. She sent cards of encouragement. Humble. Appreciative. She was a friend to everyone. She was our best friend.

It is with great sorrow that we learned of Anne-Marie’s passing a few days ago. She was a cherished friend for almost three decades. Anne-Marie was always there with a smile and dedication to help. She rejoiced in others’ successes and comforted in times of disappointment or grief. Words cannot describe how sad we are, nor can they describe how fortunate we are to have had this gentle kind human being touch our lives.

I am heartbroken. I have acquired a pile of lovely hand written cards from Anne-Marie, celebrating my pregnancy, my birthday, the death of family members, Christmas and the birth of my son just this year alone. She's never missed a birthday or Christmas in the time I have known her. About a month ago I wrote her a card expressing what this has meant to me, but not knowing the urgency, I had not yet sent it. This gracious woman is such a gift and her passing, such a loss.

Anne-Marie was a wonderful woman. She was so loving, thoughtful, hard worker, funny, and so sweet. She went out of her way to help bring smiles to everyone.
This is really shattering for everyone who cared so deeply for her. My condolences go out to Joy, Brenda, Cheryl and all her family.
I'm going to miss her so much. I can't believe she's gone. I loved her lots.

In 1986 I joined the staff at Schneider Haus. I found to my great delight a kindred spirit in the wee office. Anne Marie was the heartbeat of the historic house. A wonderfully wry sense of humour and a sympathetic listener for all.
I knew that no matter what, my long distance call would be met with enthusiasm, as if I were a long lost cousin.
I was included in all news as to the family and was called when " Family " news needed to be shared.
The sense of loss of Anne Marie's presence is very difficult. I know
she was the hub that kept us all together. I will miss her laugh the most.
To her family, I send my deepest condolences and prayers.
Anne Marie was a blyth spirit.
A bright light for all.
The lamp in the window.
The comfort and safety of the hearth. A treasure.
A warm blanket.

I know that I speak for many others when I say how saddened I was to hear of Anne-Marie's passing. As a volunteer at Schneider Haus for 25+ years, I have come to know, appreciate, admire, and love Anne-Marie. She ALWAYS showed kindness, care, concern, and genuine interest in all - visitors, staff, volunteers. Whenever I (or any of the volunteers) served at The Haus on any special occasion - Christmas, Easter, Canada Day, Thanksgiving, Hallowe'en - I would find a little "thank you" gift, a card and a treat. (Even if it was not any special day, Anne-Marie would find a way to make it so!). In addition, I frequently received cards in the mail. She was always so welcoming to all and had an incredible knowledge of the history of Schneider Haus, which she was eager to share with others. She truly loved the old Haus and , to her, it was much more than a workplace, it was her second home. She will be greatly missed by all. Deepest sympathy to Joy, Brenda, Cheryl and all the family.

Those of us who have had the honour of knowing Anne Marie are feeling our loss deeply today.
She was a very special person: a dedicated team member, willing helpmate, generous host.....loyal colleague....caring friend.
Her enviable people skills were surpassed only by the tremendous talents and experience she brought to her role as public servant.
Anne Marie was loved and will be missed by all who visited Joseph Schneider Haus over the years but especially by the many staffers and volunteers who worked side-by-side with her and felt priviledged to call her 'friend'.

I know I won't be the first or last to call Anne-Marie the heart of Schneider Haus; but there simply isn't any other way to describe her importance or kindness. Unfailingly kind, generous and thoughtful, Anne-Marie held us all together. She was always the one to reach out, to leave a surprise, a note, or mail a card when you were least expecting it (and most needed it). These small but vital gestures always bolstered my spirits and reminded me how much goodness there is in the world. Anne-Marie was the kind of person who not only could tell you the name of every person who walked through the door of the museum, but all about them too. I will miss her sudden laugh, her joyful greetings, and the wry look she would give me after a more challenging guest would visit! She will be absolutely missed.

I'm finding it difficult to express how much I will miss Anne Marie. We've worked together for 14 years - through lots of ups and downs. She was a very special person and gave her all to Schneider Haus and literally everyone associated with it. We shared a special love of potato chips - especially the salt and vinegar ones. We will miss her dreadfully. My heart goes out to her sisters and Joy.

Words cannot express how saddened I was todayvto hear of Anne-Marie's untimely death. For 28 years my husband John and I lived in Victoria Park just steps away from JSH and were "regulars" at events big and small. Anne-Marie warmly greeted us every time we stepped through the door and made us feel truly special. She was always there and we loved her dearly. To her loving family we send our deepest condolences.

I had the privilege of working with Anne-Marie at Schneider Haus. Anne-Marie made every day brighter with her smile, her humour, and her small acts of kindness. She was the kind of friend who would always wait for you at the end of the day, bring you a coffee and surprise you with treats, give the biggest hug when needed, and was always ready for a laugh. In the museum world, it has amazed me how coworkers can become more like family, and it is evident that for so many people Anne-Marie was family. Without a doubt one of the kindest, most generous, and completely selfless people I have ever known. She put everyone else first and herself last. Even after leaving JSH, Anne-Marie somehow could still find time in her busy day to call me up just to see how I was doing. She cared so much for Schneider Haus and the people around her. It was an absolute joy working with this wonderful lady. You were so loved and Schneider Haus will not be the same without you. My deepest condolences to Anne-Marie’s family and all the Schneider family.

Anne-Marie was a wonderful friend. She could make you feel like you were her best friend and she was yours, and she could do that with everybody. She taught me so much about patience, kindness and grace. I miss her already. I think we can safely say that if Susan was the brains behind the Schneider Haus legacy, without a doubt Anne Marie was the heart that kept it going. She loved working with people and it showed. It was a pleasure to work with her and I take great comfort in all the staff that have passed through those doors and learned even just as little from her. She will live on in their work and relationships - carry it forward in her memory, small acts of kindness can make a huge difference, just like Anne Marie. My deepest sympathy Joy, Brenda, Cheryl and family.

Anne-Marie was someone I always looked forward to seeing. She was someone who brought joy to all around her, and had a smile for ready for everyone. I got to know her as I grew up in the JSH family as a Junior Interpreter, and then was able to continue that friendship later in life as I worked there. She always made sure to remind people that she was there for them, and even after I left to live in Scotland, she sent me a Christmas card all the way to Glasgow so I would never forget that she cared.
Not being able to visit her again holds a deep grief, but having known her reminds me that there are angels that are in our lives, sometimes for far too short of a time.
My condolences to her family, and all her other friends, in this difficult time.

Anne-Marie was one of a kind. I am shocked and truly saddened that she is gone. She was so full of life, ever passionate about Joseph Schneider Haus, and dedicated to service excellence beyond measure. She went out of her way to brighten someone's day, to give a heartfelt welcome to visitors from all over the world, and to get the job done. She bubbled over with warmth, excitement for a new day, always so giving-whether it was a thoughtful card, a hug just when you needed it, or a special treat for the kids who were volunteering. It was evident she adored and loved her family and took great pride in being an aunt. I am so sorry that she is no longer with us. My condolences to her family, friends, Schneider Haus family. Rest in peace, Anne-Marie.

Anne-Marie was one of the kindest and generous people I've known. She would never fail to greet myself and all visitors to Schneider Haus with a smile, cheerful comment (and always offered a cup of coffee to me when I visited as part of my job). She would send sweet gifts on holidays and thoughtful cards of thanks when staff helped with an urgent concern at the museum. Anne-Marie genuinely cared for what the museum represented and was the heart of Schneider Haus hospitality and goodwill. I am deeply saddened and shocked to learn that she is no longer with us. I extend my sincere condolences to her family. We all loved Anne-Marie - she will be profoundly missed.
