Dear Bea,
To meet Roy on any occasion was a positive experience. He was kind, friendly and open to sharing and conversation. I also admired him for his enthusiasm and for his many contributions to community. As my mother, Ruth can't express her thoughts and feeling, I can say on her behalf that you and Roy were much appreciated by Mom and Dad for your kindness over the years at Preston. I will miss the opportunity to chat with Roy on those rare occasions we'd run into each other. May you be comforted by many good memories and by the devotion of your family to you and to the memory of Roy.

Dear Bea & family;
What a shock as I was going through the Record obits. What a shock it must have been. But better than
him to lay in a coma or something for a long time. I guess someone must have thought that Merrill was a
woman. My thoughts & prayers will be with you. I am surprised that someone in the family didn't let me know.
Love Marlene & Bill

Dear Bea, this candle is for you.
I thought this was fitting to light a candle in memory of Roy, as both you and I share a love for candles.
I know too well how difficult this time is for you Bea and the adjustment without Roy in your everyday life will be difficult.
Please remember that your loving family and friends, of which I am honored to be one of, are here for you.
Roy needs and wants you to be OK, while he is busy visiting other family and friends in the land of the Lord.
Sending a hug and my love, RoseAnn

Dear Bea and Family
We are so saddened to hear this news of Roy but we feel so blessed to have known him and you. We hold you in our hearts and in our prayers.
I first met Roy when I started to work at the Canadian Association of Independent Living Centres (CAILC) in 1990. Roy was a founding member of CAILC and a board member for ten years. Another board member, Linda (Cairns) Kontunen, Roy, Bea, my husband, Grant, and me all became fast friends. It has been an honour to call Roy my friend - this man of such great integrity with a remarkable facility for really hearing others and a strong sense of fair play and justice, all accompanied by a rich sense of humour and a hearty laugh.
I always felt the words on a greeting card I sent Roy following his courageous and unwavering support during a challenging period were written just for him.
"Your thoughtfulness has a way of touching lives … Of making days a little brighter, hearts a little happier and problems seem a whole lot smaller. It's people like you who make the difference in this world. And though you may not hear it often, you are appreciated very much. Your kindness will never be forgotten."
Roy, you will always be remembered with love, the greatest of respect and gratitude. Thank you forever for the wonderful difference you made in the lives of so many of us.

With deepest condolences on the loss of your precious father. May his joy be now complete, living in union with The Beloved who knit him into being in his mother’s womb. May the peace of Christ comfort the loved ones he is leaving behind for now.....thinking most especially of you, Jeff and Jan, during this season of mourning.

To know Roy, was a both an honour and privilege. One could not help but notice his love of family and his ability to make every interaction with him feel special.
I loved hearing about his wonderful work adventures and the life lessons he generously shared.
One could only admire and love Roy’s enthusiasm for ensuring his garden both at home and at the cottage were always beautifully cared for.
Roy, was a one of a kind special person who touched so many hearts and souls.
His legacy of kindness, wisdom and love will never be forgotten and will be carried forward through his loving wife and children, just as Roy would have wanted it.

Dear Bea, Receiving the call this evening about Roy’s passing brought extreme sadness and broke my heart. Words cannot express adequately the admiration and love I had for my dear friend. I first met Roy when he came to Thunder Bay to speak with the HAGI about the ILC.From that day on came a lifelong friendship. He was a mentor who took me under his wing, a colleague who I knew as a fellow ILCentre Executive Director I could always call for support and advice, but mostly a very special friend. I always wished we lived closer but I always knew that even if we hadn’t seen each other in a long time or hadn’t talked to each other for a long time when I did call it would be just like we had talked yesterday. That is a true sign of a good friend. Bea, our thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family. I cherish your friendship and on my son’s birthday, Feb. 6th, we will always have him in our thoughts as well. It may be goodbye but my dear friend will never be forgotten and will always be in my heart.Love, Linda, Arthur. and Ian
