Obituary of Barbara Doretta Lashbrook
Barbara Doretta Lashbrook
(June 29,1936- November 9,2018)
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of a devoted wife, kind mother and a loving friend on Friday November 9, 2018. Barbara was born in Preston Ontario and grew up in the Waterloo area. She will be dearly missed by her husband and best friend of over 62 years, Fred Lashbrook. Most loving mother of Jill Kirby (Ryan) and Kim Eckel (Glenn), and adoring grandmother of Michael (Jen), Ashley (Billy), Matthew (Caitlin), Katie, and Emily and great-grandmother to Jackson and Amelia. Barbara was predeceased by her parents, Martha Christine and Carl John Hahn, her sister, Winifred Eby (Keith), and by her brother Carl (Jr.) Hahn.
Barbara was an instrumental partner and co-founder of Lashbrook’s Shoes in Waterloo, and was highly respected in the industry. She had an eye for beautiful fashion, quality footwear and handbags. Over the course of their 62 years together, Barb and Fred managed to have some wonderful adventures around the world but her most cherished place was the family cottage on Georgian Bay. She would out fish just about everyone and enjoyed puttering away over her colourful overflowing planter boxes. Barbara’s quick wit, infectious smile and uncanny ability to win at cards kept us all on our toes. Her passion for baking her famous heirloom Dutch Apple pie and peanut butter cookies will never be forgotten.
We love you, Barb, Mom, grandma, great-grandma and someday we'll sit again at your table for another slice of your famous pie!
As per Barb’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral. A private family gathering has taken place. A very special thank you to the Foxboro community, cottage neighbours, friends, doctors, nurses and support staff at St. Mary’s Hospital 6th floor for all their exemplary compassion and care.
