There is not one day I'm not thinking of Josie. She was the happiest, loudest, most confident woman I have ever met. She helped so much people. She felt like home to me. She was the only one I trusted with my personal problems. She made sure every youth left yc happy.
Every day I would go yc, she'd always have the biggest smile ever and give me a big hug. She wouldn't want me to leave her side when the youth were driving her insane, I remember, she would crack up so hard when they drove her crazy.
She never shaved her armpits and wore dresses so proudly. This one year there was a valentines dance, I was bugging her about her armpit hair, but she didn't care one bit. Since she left, I never shaved my pits.
I miss her everyday.

I think that there's never going to be any other like her in this world.
LS for all they did, should bear her pain endlessly for all time.

When Josie first came to town she lived with me for awhile. She was outgoing, funny and loved life and people. I am so sorry for her loss of life and I only wish she had more support for her private struggles. Her life was cut way too short and she will be very missed by this community. May she find the peace she was looking for.
Rest easy Josie.

I sent Josie a message last year around this time. By this time we were close: I was listening to the radio that day and it was a piece on Leonard Cohen and his music. It was a year before that, that I had remembered sharing a cab with her and we hadn't even met yet. Leonard Cohen had died and she mentioned that. She started playing a song by him. I was on my way to work at the Youth Centre. Sharing a cab with strangers, saying nothing and playing Leonard Cohen. It was a night where the energy was just still and memorable. A few months after that night, she started at the YC.
I've shared drives with Josie after work and getting deep into conversations on our work at the YC. At times feeling helpless on what we faced daily but we were both there to remind each other that we are doing everything we possibly could to provide to our community. As simple as being there braiding hair or sewing together was the highlight of not only the youth's time but ours as well. We've also shared walks, bonfires, cooking and shared our appreciation for the genuine connections and moments we have with youth and our team at the YC. Her creativity and energy was always positive.
Josie, I'm thankful to have met you, to have worked with you, to be inspired by you, and to share heart-to-heart moments. You and your positive influence will truly be missed. I think one thing especially that will be missed will be your laugh. And so many things will remind me of you.
Thoughts of comfort and condolences to the grieving family and friends. Much love.

First time I met Josie she yelled « stop speaking French » to the singer of an hardcore band in a metal show at the Francophone Center in Iqaluit... no wonder I noticed her... I was operating the place back then... she somehow survived the night without my help... second time we met though ... I had to break a door to make sure she was safe ... she somehow managed to became my best friend regardless of theses first impressions ... she’d kill me for writing this ... but whoever truly knew her won’t be surprised ... I’ll never forget her, she was unique, extreme, special ... it’s really too bad she fell on the battlefield so early ... love xxx

I met Josie a few years ago, and while we were not close friends I remember her as a kind, fun and outgoing person. Last time I ran into her was on a plane from Ottawa to Iqaluit. I knew that she had just experienced a loss and rather than ask her how she was doing I just gave her a big hug. Her ability to care for others was evident by her work at the youth centre and is one of the things I remember about her. My heartfelt condolences to her family and friends.

You always stuck out like a sore thumb, in a great way.
When we had first met, you were very outgoing and free-spirited!
You were pretty good at poker but it was also the luck of the cards sometimes.
You were also very good with kids, I saw that when our team met up with your team this past summer camp.
They really enjoyed your energy and enthusiasm!
You will be missed by many Josie.
May you rest in peace.

One of the first people I met in Iqaluit. Her smile and enthusiasm for life was contagious. When ever you saw Josie you could always expect two things, a great conversation and a really BIG Josie SUPER HUG . I’m going to miss both of those.
My most memorable moment with her was at the AWG. Bonfire and taboganing down those snow covered hills on tire tubes. I’m going to miss you my friend, you always where a bright star in my Northern Sky.
