Lothar had a warm smile, which always made me feel like part of the family. He often paired that smile with a glint in his eyes, and a wicked sense of humour. Lothar delighted in introducing this city girl to new foods like venison, which he had brought home on his latest hunting trip. One dinner, as I ate yet another unidentifiable meat ( I had learned not to ask what it was until I had tried a bite or two), he announced that it was RATTLESNAKE!. As I began to gag, Lothar couldn’t keep his laughter in. In fact, the whole table was in peels of laughter. Of course, it wasn’t rattlesnake. It was a prank I never lived down and one that allowed me to add jokester to the list of descriptors I had for Lothar - hardworking, dedicated, capable, highly skilled, generous and above all, loving. You have taken a piece of my heart, Lothar and I will miss you.
