Paul Filiatrault

Obituary of Paul Joseph Filiatrault

Paul passed away peacefully at Chartwell Westmount Long Term Care Residence, Kitchener on Wednesday, December 26, 2018 at the age of 91 years.

Beloved husband of the late Shirley Filiatrault (2017). Dear father of Robert (Wendy), John and Paul (Anne), along with grandchildren Graydon, Wade, Chase, Lindsay, Shelby, Elizabeth and James. Great-grandfather to Buck.

Predeceased by his parents, Paul and Marie Filiatrault, and his sister Ann Louise Thibault, all of Montreal.

Paul was born and raised in Greenfield Park Montreal. This is where Paul met his future wife, Shirley Conrad.   Paul had many jobs as a young man in Montreal to help make ends meet at home. In 1946, Paul started working for Canadian Liquid Air.  Paul soon developed a passion for the industrial gas business. Paul had many positions over the next 21 years eventually becoming Vice-President of the carbon dioxide division. However, the most influential position was that of setting up the distributor network for Liquid Air across Canada. This had sparked his intense desire to become an industrial gas distributor himself. He then in 1967, with the support of his wife and family moved to Kitchener-Waterloo to start his own business, Tri-County Welding Supplies Ltd. Through hard work and determination, the company thrived for over 42 years becoming one of the largest industrial gas distributors in Canada.

Paul’s love of Muskoka and boating took him to Lake Rosseau where he and Shirley built a family cottage. He spent every weekend of many summers there, surrounded by family and friends.  He could often be found outside sweeping his deck, or enjoying a “fast ride” on the lake from one of the boys.  Marco Island Florida was the winter destination where he and Shirley could walk the beach, and welcome visits from the kids and grandkids.

Paul had a passion for sports beginning with hockey, football and skiing the cold winters at Saint-Sauveur in Quebec.  This passion carried through once settling in Waterloo where he and Shirley became members of the K-W Granite Curling Club, Chicopee Ski Club, Waterloo Tennis Club and Westmount Golf and Country Club.

Paul dedicated his life to his family.  From work, to family vacation homes, to sports clubs, all was for his family, as this made him extremely happy and content.
