Obituary of Jean Miriam Scheifele
Jean passed away peacefully, with family by her side, at Brampton Civic Hospital on Saturday, January 19, 2019, at the age of 92.
Jean is survived by her sister Dorothy Gould (Jack Gould, predeceased) and her brother Warren Scheifele (Martha Jean).
She is predeceased by her father Clifford Scheifele, mother Edith Scheifele (Snyder), sister Marilyn Scheifele, and brother Grant Scheifele (Barb).
Jean attended Waterloo College (Waterloo Lutheran University) which at that time was affiliated with the University of Western Ontario and graduated top of her class. Sadly, a serious illness prevented Jean from pursuing a career and consequently she spent most of her life living and working on the family farm. Jean’s ancestors migrated from Alsace Lorraine, Switzerland to Pennsylvania and then settled in Waterloo County around 1850. The Scheifele family homestead in 1967, Canada’s Centennial year, received the Century Farm designation. It was an active working farm in Kitchener for well over 100 years.
Jean was very fond of her many nieces and nephews and enjoyed any chance she had to spend time with them. Her sister Dorothy’s children, Janet, Grant (Deborah), Gaye (Bruce), Judy (Pedro) and Peter (Debbie); her brother Warren’s children, Cheryl (George), Lynda and Andrew (Wendy); and brother Grant’s children, Lori (Sanjeev), Kari, and Bob (Robin) and in later years many of their children, her great-nieces and great-nephews, brought happiness to her.
For the past five years, Jean has had the wonderful opportunity to live in the home of Hermie and Michael Fernandes where she became a cherished member of their family. The children and grandchildren became a new family for Jean and we are forever grateful to Hermie, Michael, Don, Anthony, and May, and grandchildren Eitan, Mathew and Murielle who brought Jean such Joy. Their compassionate care of Jean will be forever appreciated.
Jean’s funeral service will be held in the chapel of Parkview Cemetery, 335 University Ave. E., Waterloo on Thursday, January 31, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. with burial to follow.
