Obituary of Sheila Moore

It is with both sadness at life's end and joy at a life well lived that we announce the passing of Sheila Moore. Sheila died peacefully at The Village at University Gates in her 91st year on January 30, 2019 following an extended battle with Alzheimers.

Born May 7, 1928 in Edinburgh Scotland, she emigrated to Toronto, Canada in 1952. Sheila was the beloved wife of the late Elmer Lorne Moore, former Solicitor of the Region of Waterloo, her husband of over 50 years.  Wonderful mother of Julia Moore-Vigeant (Lionel), Alan Moore (Ann), Sandra Moore, Angela Moore (Mike).  Special Grandmother of Jeffrey (Kristi), Gregory and Laura Moore and James and Thomas Rowlandson. Predeceased by her parents Alex and Kate MacLeod and her sisters Violet (Bill) Milne of Edinburgh Scotland, Edith MacLeod and Catherine McKechnie of Toronto.  She will be lovingly remembered by her surviving sister, Olive Davan (John), her cousins in New Zealand and her many nieces and nephews in Canada and Scotland.

A loving mother, Sheila was adventurous, warm, patient, and compassionate. Sheila enjoyed movies, Star Trek, knitting, volunteering and spending time at her cottage.  She was a kind soul and lady to the end, even as Alzheimers took her memories of her life and loved ones.

She was a long-time and faithful member of St. Andrews Presbyterian church in Kitchener since 1969, active in the Women's Auxiliary, Group 12 and was a volunteer in the church office.  Sheila worked at Wilfrid Laurier University as a secretary in the English Department for many years.  She was also a member of Phi Sigma Alpha sorority for over 40 years and a long time member of the Women's Probus Club. Sheila also volunteered as an ESL and literacy teacher for women new to Canada.

A special thank you to the staff and volunteers and at The Village at University Gates, particularly the staff in Hagey neighbourhood.  A very special thank you to Joan Cowcill and Grethe Johnson who provided companionship to Sheila these last couple of year. Your kindness and compassion have been exceptional.
