Obituary of Oscar Herman Zarnke

Passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family at St. Mary’s General Hospital on Sunday, February 10, 2019 in his 100th year.

 

Oscar was predeceased by his beloved wife of 69 years, Reta (2014), his son Lanny (2017) and his sister Dorothy Mitchell (2015).

 

Survived by his son Paul (Donna) Zarnke and daughter Sherri (Charles) Binkle, grandchildren Micah (Torie), Matthew (Beth), Nathan (Karalee), Jeremy (Max), Justin (Amy) as well as great-grandchildren Clara, Jack and Joanie. Oscar is also survived by his brother Fred (Pearl) Zarnke.

 

Oscar served in the Air Force during the War. He was a life-long member of St. John’s Lutheran Church (Trillium) and sang in the choir for 84 years. He was often a guest soloist at weddings and concerts. For the past two years, he was a resident of Luther Village. The family would like to thank the staff of Luther Village for the care and comfort given to Oscar.

 

Friends are invited to share their memories of Oscar with his family during visitation at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Thursday, February 14, 2019 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held at Trillium Lutheran Church (St. John’s Lutheran), 22 Willow Street, Waterloo on Friday, February 15 at 11 a.m., with Rev. Fred Ludolph officiating.  A reception will immediately follow in the fellowship hall. Interment at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
