Obituary of Ronald Joseph Green

Green, Ronald Joseph

April 8, 1945 – Feb 19, 2019

“I told you I was sick!”

After a lengthy battle with cancer, Ronald ‘Trooper’ Green was called off by the Lord for one last detail in the great parade square in the sky. He was eagerly greeted at the Pearly Gates by Saint Peter, who exclaimed: “After 32 years in a Tire Factory, you’ve spent your time in Hell. Welcome Home!”

Ronald passed away the evening of Tuesday, February 19th, 2019 surrounded by a family who adored him in the peace and comfort of his home. He will be remembered for his devotion to his family, the strength of his faith, the quickness of his wit, and his service to his Country and Community. A life-long fitness buff, Ron will also be missed by his Gym family and friends.

Though terribly injured in a Jump accident while serving as a Paratrooper with the Royal Canadian Regiment at age 18, he remained active in the Legion and other groups, advocating for Veterans and visiting schools for Remembrance Day’s ‘Remembering the Heroes’ program in order to educate the younger generations on the service and sacrifice made by our country’s men and women in the Armed Forces.

He leaves behind his loving wife of 47 years, Lois Green (Powell), daughter Cindy (Salvatore Varriano), son Chad, granddaughter Miranda Green (Thomas Tesfazion), grandsons Charlie and Reece Witen, mother-in-law Evelyn Powell, brothers Winston and Ed Green and in-laws Linda and Gary Weinstein, Mike and Brenda Wiles, Mark and Carol Powell, Peter and Joan Trautrim. Predeceased by his parents James and Teresa, and father-in-law Charles Powell.

Friends are invited to share their memories of Ron with his family during visitation at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Friday, February 22, 2019 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. The funeral service will be held in the chapel of the funeral home on Saturday at 4:00 pm. Cremation will have taken place and interment will be held at Williamsburg Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, condolences for the family and donations to St. Mary’s Cardiac Care Centre, Grand River Regional Cancer Centre or Blessed Sacrament RC Church may be arranged through the funeral home at www.erbgood.com or 519-745-8445.
