Gladys Sinclair

Obituary of Gladys Marie Sinclair

Sinclair, Gladys

Gladys passed away peacefully at AR Goudie People Care on Saturday, March 23rd, 2019 at age 91.  Born in Kitchener, Ontario, Gladys attended St Mary’s Elementary and High School.  After her graduation she was employed in banking and office administration.  She married Sam Goleff in 1948.  In the early 50’s Sam and his partner David Kirby purchased the Queens Hotel in Port Elgin where they resided for several years.  After returning to Kitchener Gladys and her husband built a new home on Edwin Street where she lived and raised her family before entering the retirement home last April.  She supported her husband Sam with multiple entrepreneurial ventures, including Sam’s Variety in Kitchener.  After Sam’s passing in 1970, Gladys married Norman Sinclair in 1972 and shared a wonderful life until his passing in 2007.

Together they enjoyed an active retirement, golfing at Conestoga Country club and traveling regularly to Florida, Mexico and Texas.  They shared a trip to Europe, western Canada and Caribbean cruise.  Gladys also enjoyed her garden, cooking and knitting.  She shared her life with others through volunteering for various organizations including the Big Sisters and as a teacher’s aide.  She was an avid bridge player and enjoyed a challenging game of badminton.

She enjoyed traveling with family and friends visiting Niagara on the Lake, Las Vegas, Myrtle Beach and Port Elgin.  When visiting Port Elgin she was known to be seen multiple times a day at the beach enjoying ice cream.  She had a great fondness for music: in particular, songs from the 1940s and 50s including the big band era and pop music.  As a resident at AR Goudie she loved to participate in all activities with a particular fondness for balloon volleyball, bingo and the choir.

She is predeceased by Norman her husband of 35 years and is survived by children Greg (Debbie) Goleff, Cathie (Mike) Slothouber and Norman Sinclair Jr.  Also survived by three grandchildren, Chris Slothouber and Nick (Erin) Slothouber and Doug (Christie) Sandlin and six great-grandchildren Benjamin, Cora, Carli, Caitlyn, Jackson and Abigail.  She is also survived by her sister Doris Helm.

Predeceased by her first husband, Sam Goleff, her parents Paul and Antonia Homanchuk, her brother Norm Homanchuk and grandchild Jessica Marie Slothouber.
