Obituary of Gerald Pelkey
Gerry Pelkey
September 15, 1926 – March 23, 2019
Passed away peacefully with family by his side, after a life of love and dedication with his wife Marie and children. Predeceased by his parents, James and Victoria May Pelkey and his brother Donald. Married to Marie for 62-years, with their children currently living in various locations in Canada and the United States. Donna Lynn Austen – Manitoba; Joan Elizabeth Kelly (Joe) – Florida; Patricia Anne Yantz (Brian) and their children Brandon and Stephanie – Ontario; Steven Gerald Pelkey (Karen) and their boys Ryan and Shane – British Columbia.
He will be missed by his sister Carol Opatoski (Mike) and brother Jimmy (Mary) and Jimmy’s three children, Mark, David and Lisa; and nephew Bobby. Gerry was from early age an avid reader and an enthusiastic golfer after learning the game as a young caddy at Cherry Hill. He played many of the top courses in Canada and the United States. He was honored to be elected President of the Oakville Golf Course in 1990.
After graduating from the University of Toronto with an Economics degree in 1951, Gerry joined General Motors of Canada in 1952. He retired on December 1, 1986 to join the G.M. Dealers Association of Toronto for 6-years. Gerry often stated that he had the best family in the world and working with great people at G.M. was fun and stimulating.
A celebration of Gerry’s life will occur at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King Street South, Waterloo, on Wednesday March 27 between 7 & 9 pm. A special thank you to Lanark Place and Lisaard Hospice for their caring and compassion. In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated at Lisaard Hospice in Cambridge, Ontario.
