We always talk about the importance of role modeling in Student Affairs and Leanne set the bar high for the rest of us. She was a woman who gave of herself completely, committed to making a difference in the lives of students. She was passionate, compassionate and fun. A woman who I respected for her energy and ideas, and really liked for her generous soul. The profession has lost a shining star but she will be remembered for her dedication and impact. My heart goes out to her family and her colleagues.

I am absolutely heart broken by this news. Leanne and I quickly bonded over the fact that we were both French students at Waterloo, in addition to being passionate student affairs educators. Regardless of how long it had been since we last connected, Leanne always made me feel like it had just been yesterday - connecting in ways that make sure you feel like you’re the only person in the room. Caring, sincere, wonderfully humoured - she was the embodiment of our profession and what it truly means to be a caring human. You will be missed by all who had the privilege to know you, and #KennyBrown you and the kids are in my heart.

I was privileged to have Leanne as one of my truly memorable students in several French courses at the University of Waterloo. Her intrinsic generosity of spirit and openness to others shone very brightly for all to see and experience. It was clear that the very special person that Leanne was would change the lives of others for the better, as she did so wonderfully through her engagement with countless students during her years at Wilfrid Laurier. A true example of what life is about at its best. Your powerful legacy lives on, dear Leanne. My deepest condolences to those who mourn you.

To Leanne’s family and friends,
I have been in disbelief since reading the news of Leanne's passing. Leanne was one of the few people who believed in me when I returned to Laurier in 2014 hoping to upgrade my undergraduate degree. She personally made sure I had the textbooks I needed for my classes knowing that I wouldn't have been able to afford them otherwise. She was a beautiful soul and will be deeply missed.
I am unable to be in Waterloo for her celebration of life but wanted to express my deepest sympathy to her family, and particularly to her two boys.
May her memory be for a blessing.
With deepest sympathy for your loss,

Thank you for your bold, beautiful, brightly shining faith that was the evidence of God's work in your life. Our prayers are with your "3 special boys": Ken, Holden and Andrew. Leanne really had an endless amount of patience and compassion. To be a genuine comfort to students at WLU, or UW, or Conestoga, as a teacher, etc., during the day, and then to come home to Kenny, I mean, that is other worldly. I have known Leanne for a couple decades and all her choices have always revolved around helping and supporting other people. It is so rare and so special, and I know I was always in awe of that and it made me a better person as I aspired to be more like her in my work and my life. Kenny, all the love we had for the both of you - it all gets directed towards you now - and it is substantial. Paraphrasing Aeschylus, RFK spoke theses words to a distraught crowd once:
Even in our sleep, pain which cannot forget,
Falls drop by drop upon the heart,
Until, in our own despair,
Against our will,
Comes wisdom
Through the awful grace of God.

My Dear friend Leanne, my heart is breaking for the great women, wife, mother, daughter and friend your are, taken from us way to soon. We have many memories from when we met at Sandals St Lucia, our hobby rides on the ocean. Your family visit to us in 2017 to Maine USA, us floating in the calm lake waters, our evening chats by the camp fire, our Maine lobster dinner, our kayak trips around the lake, Holden fishing with our neighbor, I believe referred to as “pops”, Drew not wanting to leave me, I told him you can come back any time his response “tomorrow”, and asylum our evening glasses of wine. Our last trip December 2018 to the great island of Barbados, such a great trip, our days in the sun in the beach and around the pool, our tour of the island, nightly Sushi apps followed by our great dinners. Till we meet again all our love Joyce and Ed Roux ❤️❤️

I am a mature student who Leanne helped last year. I wrote to tell her that I had never experienced that kind of interest and listening to my story before. I will never forget the feeling of her genuine caring and warmth in her office that day. I had not known feeling supported like that before and now, knowing that experience, I can pass on that kind of caring to others. Thank you Leanne from all the students whose lives you changed. As I wrote to you, "Thank you for your assistance in my success. I shall aspire to be able to pass on the gift." We will pass on your gifts.
It is my wish that the emergency fund that Leanne managed be renamed in her honour. I also wish the comfort of her Light that continues to shine, for her family, Ken, Holden and Andrew.

Leanne was incredibly caring and thoughtful. I worked with her on several instances where we were coordinating our efforts to support a struggling graduate student. In December, she sent me this email:
Oh boy Doug - sounds like you've had another doozie of a week. I'm sorry it's been such a tough slog lately. Please let me know if there's anything in particular I can do to help? Happy to buy you coffee as a minimum and offer my support.
Leanne
To me that was the essence of Leanne. We were up to our eyeballs in work at the end of the term, and she took the time to check in on me. You could hear her voice from the tone of the email. Positive. Supportive, but not trivializing the challenges we all face. Leanne was one of a kind. She will be missed.
