Obituary of Dr. Freeman Roth
Dr. Freeman Roth passed away Friday, April 26, 2019 at Grand River Hospital after a brief but intense battle with a rare, aggressive skin cancer.
Freeman was born 87 years ago at Punky Doodles Corners. Son of the late Nicholas and Leah Roth (Lichti). Freeman was predeceased by his brothers Sylvin, Henry, and Nelson and his sisters Luella and Nelda. He is survived by Carolyn, his wife, of 60 years. Cherished father of David (Fran) and Valerie. Forever remembered by his grandchildren James and Julia.
He graduated from University of Toronto Dental School in 1956, opening up one of the first preventative dental practices in Kitchener-Waterloo. Upon his retirement, his daughter Valerie proudly took over his dental practice.
An early member of Rockway Mennonite Church, he also attended Chesley Lake Hallman Chapel in the summer, and would leave the ski hills on Sunday mornings in the winter to attend Emmanuel Presbyterian Church near Collingwood.
He was a member of many charitable organizations including Pan Politae Y’s Men’s Club, a Charter member of Kitchener Conestoga Rotary Club, and served on the Board of Chesley Lake Association for many years.
He was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hiking trails that took him around the world. He spent countless years golfing on weekday evenings at Westmount Golf and Country Club. He was a passionate skier, known to many at Devil’s Glen Ski Club as consistently being the first one on the chairlift each ski day. You could find him flying on a kite over Chesley Lake, barefoot water skiing, or riding his motorcycle along the beach road at Sauble. He loved building campfires at his summer cottage or his ski chalet, gathering his family around him at the end of the sports filled days.
Freeman’s family will receive friends at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St South, Waterloo on Thursday, May 9th from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held at Rockway Mennonite Church, 47 Onward Avenue, Kitchener, on Friday, May 10, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev.
