Obituary of Kathleen Alberta Caughell
Kathleen peacefully slipped away with her daughters by her side, on Tuesday, April 23, 2019, at Grand River Hospital, after a brief illness, at the age of 95.
She will be dearly missed by her family. Mother to Dee Anne Dirksen (Eric) and Mary Sue Fitzpatrick (Dana); Nana to Sarah Allen (Chris), Paul Dirksen, William Dirksen and Caitlin Fitzpatrick; Aunt to Pat Caughill, Pam Psutka, David Caughill (Carol), and Scott Snetsinger (Monika); and Great Aunt to several nieces and nephews.
Kathy was predeceased by Wallace, her high school sweetheart and husband of 70 years; her parents Albert and Bertha Hiller; her sisters and brothers-in-law Dorothy and Elwood Schenk, Dee Dee and John Snetsinger; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law Howard and Shirley Caughill; and niece Janice (Caughill) Young.
Kathy had sparkle and charm and a quiet inner strength. She gave lovingly and selflessly to her family who were the centre of her life. She made a lovely home for us and delighted in warmly welcoming and beautifully entertaining family and friends and celebrating holidays and special milestones.
Kathy loved spending summer at the cottage, with her family, on Georgian Bay; lacing up her ice skates in winter; and putting on her dancing shoes for a turn on the floor with Wally. She loved flowers in spring, autumn leaves in the fall, and celebrating Christmas with family.
She lived life with grace and enthusiasm, and a sunshine personality that warmed us all.
Kathy was a long-standing member of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Kitchener, and a member of their Women’s Missionary Society.
A Celebration of Life Reception will be held at Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo, on Sunday, May 5, 2019, from 2-4 p.m., in the Fireside Room.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Kathy’s memory, to St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Kitchener, or charity of your choice, would be greatly appreciated. This may be arranged through the funeral home at www.erbgood.com or 519-745-8445.
