Obituary of Donald Edwin Balcarras

BALCARRAS, Donald Edwin

Donald passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday, May 6, 2019 at Grand River Hospital in his 95th year. Beloved husband of Cecilia and the late Edna. Dear father of Donald (Doris), Robert (Tina), David and Ronald. Cherished grandfather of Diana (Graham), James, David, Stuart (Meaghan), Timothy, Marissa and great grandfather to Ella, Lukas and Theodore. Survived by his sister Audrey and predeceased by his brother Arthur. Dearly loved by family of Cecelia for the last 20 years.

Donald served overseas in the Second World War with the Essex Scottish Regiment of Canada. Upon returning home, he continued serving others in his community. He was a founding member and the Sunday school superintendent of All Saints’ Anglican Church as well as the group committee chairman for the 2nd Waterloo Cubs and Scouts. Donald was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 530; Army, Navy & Airforce Veterans; and K-W Naval Association, where he volunteered for many years visiting sick members on behalf of the club.

Relatives and friends are invited to share their memories of Donald with his family during a visitation on Friday, May 10, 2019 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 7:00-9:00 p.m. at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King Street S., Waterloo. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at All Saints’ Anglican Church, 400 Northfield Drive W., Waterloo.

In memory of Donald, donations to the Canadian Diabetes Association, Royal Canadian Legion Branch 530 Poppy Fund or The Hospital for Sick Children would be appreciated and can be arranged through the funeral home www.erbgood.com or 519-745-8445.
