Obituary of Hilda Leah Hohl

HOHL, Hilda Leah (Seyler) passed away peacefully surrounded by family, at St. Mary’s Hospital on May 13, 2019 at the age of 95.  Hilda was born on May 30, 1923 in Philipsburg, Ontario. She was predeceased by her loving husband Elmer Hohl on September 4, 1987.

Hilda will be sadly missed by her five children: Sandra Roemer (Barry Daniels), Sue Forler (Tim), Richard Hohl (Lynn), Karen Ehnes (Wayne), Stephen Hohl (Sandy), also 14  grandchildren: Mark  and Matthew Roemer, Jeremy and Jessica Graff, Rob Malcolmson, Leanne Hohl, Sarah Snow, Laura, Brant and Brian Ehnes, John Moyes, Ashley Smith, Brittany and Hailey Janssens,  as well as 11 great-grandchildren: Blake, Gavin and Mitchell Roemer, Joey and Max Roemer, Addyson and William Graff, Braedy Warren, Logan Lisk, Lia Snow and Emily Moyes.

Hilda is survived by her sister-in-law Rita Seyler. She was predeceased by her parents, William and Magdalene Seyler, her siblings Edgar Seyler, Helen Lautenschlager and Wilfrid Seyler, her brother-in-law Lloyd Lautenschlager and sister-in-law Catherine Seyler. 

She married the love of her life Elmer Hohl on September 15, 1945 and raised their family on a farm in Lisbon, outside of Wellesley. Because Elmer was a Canadian and World Champion horseshoe pitcher, they had wonderful opportunities travelling extensively to horseshoe tournaments throughout Canada and the United States.  After Elmer’s passing, Hilda moved into Winston Park Village in Kitchener and was able to spend many memorable winters in Florida. Both Hilda and Elmer formed true and lasting friendships wherever they travelled.  Family and friends were the priorities in their lives.

Hilda’s family would like to thank Dr. B. Campbell and the nurses on the 4^th and 5^th floors of the St. Mary's hospital for their care and compassion while looking after their mom.

Hilda’s family will receive relatives and friends at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S. Waterloo on Thursday May 16, 2019 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 – 9:00 p.m.  The funeral service will be held at Zion Lutheran Church in Philipsburg on Friday May 17, 2019 at 1:00 p.m.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
