Obituary of Elaine Almeda Haney

(nee Thaler)

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Elaine A. Haney (Thaler) on Saturday, May 18, 2019, at St. Mary's General Hospital in Kitchener.

Elaine was born in Clifford, Ontario on August 4, 1933.  She lived in Clifford and then Hanover, Ontario during her childhood before training as an Early Childhood Educator at Ryerson Institute of Technology in Toronto.  Elaine worked for many years as an Educational Assistant at the KW Rotary Centre (KidsAbility).  In 1955, Elaine married Reg Haney and worked to raise a family in Waterloo, Ontario.  They were married for 63 years until Reg's death in 2018.

Elaine is mourned by her four children, daughter Mary Anne (Sandy McIntyre), and sons James (Erika), Peter (Elizabeth Sproule), and John (Patty Schotsch). Elaine was adored by her grandchildren Catherine McIntyre (Darryl Murphy), Alexandra McIntyre, Madeline and Mark Haney, Thomas, Simon, and Charlotte Haney, and her great-granddaughter Vivian.  Elaine is survived by her sisters Merle Haney-Drudge, Marilynn Davies (Arnold), and Vivien Tolton (Barry).

Elaine’s family would like to thank the kind and committed staff at St. Mary’s General Hospital and the caregivers from Warm Embrace for their efforts on Elaine’s behalf.

Cremation has taken place.  The Haney family will receive relatives and friends at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Thursday, May 23, 2019 from 6-9 p.m.  A memorial service will be held in the Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, May 24, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. with a reception following at the funeral home.
