Our condolences to Danielle and Don's families on his passing away. It is consoling to know that he passed away peacefully in Wellesley Hospice, rather than a hospital. Don was a loving and wonderful friend of ours whose novel, thought-provoking ideas and extraordinary sense of humour were so interesting and enjoyable. His love of Danielle and their families and Bear and friends shall continue to inspire and enrich our lives forever.

It has been a privilege to have known a former SAS colleague, Dr Don Ranney.
Don, you were gifted with a great vitality.
And gave freely of your time and skill to those in need.
I remain grateful both for your exemplary professional dedication and personal good cheer.
"Through many dangers, toils and snares
I have already come.
'Tis Grace that brought me safe thus far...
and grace will lead me home"
Respectfully,
Ken

Grandpa Don was such a welcoming man. He accepted me into his fold right away and we shared some treasured times. I found him witty and smart; I could listen to him for hours. When we first met it was quickly apparent that he enjoyed teaching. In his gentle way he seemed to teach something valuable to whomever was lucky enough to listen.
There are moments in life we never forget. I'll always have fond memories. Not that long ago, he drove to Toronto with Grandmama to walk my lovely wife Sarah down the isle and to attend our wedding. Indeed, there are very special times with Grandpa Don I will never forget.

Grandpa will be remembered in so many wonderful ways; he had an enthusiasm for life, he would take the time to show he cared, and he was a genuinely loving person. His strong faith was a testament to knowing God as his loving Heavenly Father. Grandpa was a brilliant man who accomplished great things in his life, and had an amazing time along the way. I will continue to be inspired by all the memories of him living life to the fullest. Until we meet again, he will be dearly missed.

We are saddened to hear this news. Dr. Ranney was tireless in his efforts to bring a School of Anatomy to the Department of Kinesiology in 1978. Over 40 years later we are able to teach meaningful human anatomy to hundreds of students each year. Dr. Ranney's message of respect for the deceased is written on the wall of our lab and we read his words each time a new group enters the lab. Dr. Ranney will always be remembered here at the University of Waterloo.
