On behalf of both myself and my family as well as the members of Rainham Mennonite, we want to say how sorry we are to hear of Bob's passing. Those of us who grew up with the Shantz family at the Rainham and South Cayuga churches remember him with great fondness. Many of our more recent members got to meet him a few years ago at a church reunion, and we regret that we won't be able to duplicate that experience. He was a great leader and friend and he will be missed. We will be thinking of all of you during our congregational prayer this Sunday.

Dear Janice and family,
I am so sorry for your loss. Your husband Bob is one of the reasons I have a career in music. His love of music and warm hearted nurturing (and discipline) could not be matched by any teacher. I will always remember him and the time I was fortunate enough to spend with your family. All my love Carol Isaac

Fond memories flood my mind as I remember the teachings, choir trips and mentorship we received from Bob at Rockway in the mid-seventies. Last year he took the time to attend my Dad's 90th birthday open house and, in retrospect, I am so grateful for that happy reunion. May God's merciful peace and love surround all of you as you say good bye to a wonderful man who shaped the lives of so many of us in our youth. Heaven's perfect pitch is welcoming Bob home with joyous song! Warmest regards to all who mourn today, Karen Gingerich

We have great memories of christian fellowship growing up with Robert as a youth in my home congregation at Rainham Mennonite church. He loved to sing and always kept us in the right pitch, helping us to joyfully praise the Lord together. What a blessing he was to all of us.

Bob was a good source of information when I wrote the history of Rockway Mennonite Collegiate in the 1990s, a wonderful co-volunteer in the programming at Detweiler Meetinghouse, and a wonderful conversationalist in chance encounters at conferences and concerts. I will miss his sense of humour. I am out of the country the weekend of the visitation and memorial service, but wish only the best for Janice and family.

Bob taught our children Anthony, Kristine, and Jeremy at Rockway Mennonite Collegiate. He was loved by his students. Bob was a selfless force for good. Would that there were many more like him. Thank you, my friend. Rest in peace. Maggie and I will be at a family funeral in Abbotsford on the 4th and 5th, so will be unable be unable to attend the visitation and funeral. Our prayers and sincere condolences go out to the entire family.
