Obituary of J. (Betty) Elizabeth McCallum
Betty McCallum, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, wife, friend, sister and aunt passed away peacefully on September 25, 2019 at the age of 91. She was supported by the love of her family until her final moment.
Born November 23, 1927 in Owen Sound, ON, she was the daughter of Aleatha (MacIntosh) and Alvin Green. Also predeceased by her step father, George Green. Betty met her future husband, Colin, in London, ON on her 18th birthday. Colin and Betty moved to Kitchener shortly after marrying in 1948 and later built a home in Waterloo where they raised their family. Together, they travelled the world.
Predeceased by her husband Colin in 2013 and survived by her children, Jane Ann (Robert) Neath, Liz Honsberger (Jim Harrison), C. Scott (Cheryl), and Sandy (Dave) Dumart. Also survived by her grandchildren, Erin (Randy Rattansingh) and Todd (Eliana) Neath, Andrew (Jenna), Jeff (Erin), Craig (Hailey) and Matt Dumart and Elizabeth McCallum. Also survived by her great-grandchildren Kamryn and Taylor Rattansingh, Benjamin Neath, Brayden and Alexis Dumart as well as Heidi Dumart. Also remembered by Jim's children, Kristie Nutland, Jaime Harrison and Leanne Swanston and their families. Predeceased by her sister Olive and Olive’s husband, Elmer C. Gorham.
Betty will be remembered by family, friends and former colleagues at the University of Waterloo, for her love of conversation, playing bridge and as a charter member of Parkminster United Church where she served in many capacities through the years. Betty loved life and a practical joke.
Betty’s family extends their thanks for the kind and compassionate care provided by Lanark Long Term Care staff, Pine neighbourhood, during her final days.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 2nd, 2019 at 4:00 pm at Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King Street South, Waterloo, ON. Rev. Joe Gaspar officiating. Reception to follow.
