Obituary of Doreen Ritter
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Doreen Ritter on October 4, 2019 in her 84th year. After a courageous battle with cancer, Doreen passed away peacefully at Innisfree House where she spent her final week surrounded by the love of family, friends and hospice staff.
Born January 9, 1935, in Kitchener, Doreen was the loving wife of 54 years to the late Carl Ritter. Predeceased by parents John and Georgina House, sister Marlene (Sonny) Soehner, brothers-in-law George (Ruth) and Harold (Merle) Ritter.
She is survived by her sister Sharon (Alex) MacEwing of Maryhill and their children Kristie (Ted) Vasarhelyi and Ryan MacEwing (fiancee Lorraine Edghill and her daughter Victoria). She also leaves behind her three little sweethearts, Ainsley, Taryn and Graydon Vasarhelyi. Also survived by brother-in-law Fred of Orillia, and sisters-in-law Fran Reger (Lorne) of Waterloo, Grace (Elgin) McCandless and Jean Adamson (George) of Elmira. She will be deeply missed by a number of nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Doreen spent many years alongside her husband Carl volunteering their time at Trinity Village Care Centre and the Waterloo Rod and Gun where she continued as an active volunteer after his passing. Doreen was a loyal fan of the Waterloo Siskins where she attended games regularly with her friends and was sure to never miss a televised game of her beloved Blue Jays. As an avid card player, Doreen was always up for a game of rummy or cribbage with friends and loved ones.
The family wishes to express a heartfelt thank you to the staff at the Grand River Regional Cancer Centre, Hospice of Waterloo, Innisfree House and Reverend Tanya Ramer for their kindness and care during her cancer journey.
Friends and family are invited to the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home at 171 King St. S, Waterloo, for visitation on Saturday October, 12, 2019 from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. A celebration of Doreen’s life will be held at 10:30 a.m. in the chapel of the funeral home, with reception to follow.
