Blair McGregor

Obituary of Blair McGregor

Blair McGregor passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 6, 2019 at Hospice Wellington at the age of 61 years old.

Blair is survived by his loving wife, Nancy Fisher, and brothers Bruce (Suzanne) and Ross (Margaret d.). He is predeceased by his parents George and Margaret (Troup) and his brother Clive (Marva).  Blair was a much-loved uncle to his many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews, and was warmly welcomed into the family by Nancy’s children, Danielle, Kris, and Dylan Whittemore.  He was also lovingly embraced by the entire Fisher clan.

An academic in mind and heart, Blair received a Master’s Degree in English and Scottish history.  He was known for his quick wit, sense of humour, and unfailing kindness.  Blair was a man of simple pleasures, who enjoyed cooking, British television, doo-wop music, and taking care of his loved ones at home.  He was excellent company even in life’s quiet moments, and he knew how to offer comfort when you needed it most.  In fact, he had an uncanny ability to anticipate your needs, stepping up with all the little things you didn’t even know you were missing.  He always made sure the coffee pot was brewing first thing in the morning, and that the light was left on last thing at night, so that you could always find your way in the darkness.

When diagnosed with cancer, he faced his treatment bravely and without complaint, content to be surrounded by the love and support of Nancy and her family.  He waited many years to have a family of his own, but he made up for lost time by being an excellent husband, friend and role model.

A Celebration of Life will be held in the Hearth Room at Emmanuel United Church, 22 Bridgeport Road West, Waterloo on Saturday, November 9, 2019 at 1:30 p.m.
