Obituary of Roger Dann
Roger Dann, born July 2, 1920, in Burnley, England, passed away on October 18, 2019, at the age of 99.
He is survived by his son Tom (Christine Lalonde), daughter Victoria Lant (David), Jane Reeb (mother of Morgan and Cale), and five grandchildren: Morgan (Dustin DeVincentis), Cale (Gwen Shen), Nicholas (Chantelle Reid), Jeremy, and Emily. He had one great-granddaughter, Regan, daughter of Morgan and Dustin. A second great-granddaughter is expected in December, daughter of Chantelle and Nick.
Roger was predeceased by his wife Corrie, his daughter Elsa and his granddaughter Cynthia.
Roger enjoyed a full and healthy life to the end of his days and will be remembered as an intelligent, kind, and generous man who loved his family. He was always ready for guests, especially grandkids, welcoming everyone with a smile, a laugh, and a cup of tea (or something stronger). An avid cyclist, talented woodworker, and former member of the Royal Air Force, he fought for Britain in World War II.
Roger, Corrie, Elsa, and Tom emigrated to Canada in 1956 to join Corrie’s Dutch family, who had already moved here. Vicki was born in Canada in 1962, and the family shared many camping adventures and family parties. They raised pets of all sorts, including ponies, cats, dogs, ducks, and even a raccoon while living in a 150-year-old farmhouse near Innerkip. Roger worked at Fisher Controls in Woodstock for 28 years, moving from manufacturing foreman to quality assurance.
A Memorial Service to celebrate Roger’s long life will be held at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo, on Thursday, October 24, 2019 at 3:00 p.m. All friends and family are welcome to attend and to join together for food and drinks right after the service.
Condolences for the family and donations to KidsAbility, Western University (which his three children and some of his grandchildren attended) or the children’s charity of your choice, may be arranged by contacting the funeral home at www.erbgood.com or 519-745-8445.
