Obituary of Earle McCormick
After a period of declining health, Jeffrey Earle McCormick passed away, surrounded by his loving family at St. Mary’s Hospital on December 3, 2019 at age 65. He was born in Montreal to Thelma Loyst (Vern, deceased) and the late Donald McCormick. Earle lived a life full of courage, integrity and compassion.
Earle’s family meant the world to him. He was the loving husband and best friend of Loretta (nee Brun) for 36 years. Devoted, proud and much-loved father of Erika, Graham and daughter-in-law Rebecca. Adored big brother of Murray (Marian), Kim (Chris) and Melissa (Eric, deceased). Cherished son-in-law of Eugenia and the late Secondo Brun. He holds a special place in the hearts of Loretta’s sisters, Lucy (Scott) and Rita (Bill, deceased). He was the fun-loving uncle of Megan, Mallory, Meredith, Cameron, Katie, Emily and Kaelan.
As a proud dad, Earle was a dependable chauffeur and cheering fan at Graham and Erika’s countless sporting events and activities. He ran in local races, enjoyed many summers sailing on Georgian Bay and was a loyal supporter of the Canadiens, Blue Jays and Buffalo Bills. Every morning until a year ago, you could spot him power-walking through his neighborhood. Earle was a motorcycle aficionado, car enthusiast, model train builder and barbecuing fanatic. He also donated his time and expertise to various charitable pursuits and community foundations.
Earle’s career in financial services spanned four decades, the majority spent in the KW area. As a financial advisor and strategist, he had an unwavering commitment to his clients. Meeting their financial needs was one of his highest priorities. With his immense knowledge of the industry, problem-solving skills and vast connections, he provided his clients a unique perspective in the management of their financial affairs. It is a true testament to Earle’s commitment that many of them consider him a close personal friend.
Earle was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at the age of 19. He faced many health challenges and complications but was fortunate to be a two-time transplant recipient. His selfless, courageous sister Kim gave him a kidney in 1997 and six years later Earle became the fourth Canadian to receive a pancreas after kidney transplant. He was thrilled to begin a new chapter in life, free of dialysis and insulin. Earle became an organ donation advocate, sharing his story and educating others.
His family would like to thank the many health care professionals who treated and supported Earle through his medical journey and express their deepest gratitude to Dr. Gerald Rosenstein for his care, compassion and eternal optimism.
Visitation will be held at Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Friday, December 13, 2019 from 4 – 6:30 pm. A Celebration of Earle’s life will take place at the Funeral Home on Saturday, December 14, 2019 at 1:30 pm with a Reception to follow.
Earle believed ordinary people could accomplish the extraordinary…and that he did. He was a shining example of strength and courage to his family, his many friends and all who had the distinct pleasure of knowing him. To honour Earle’s memory, please consider becoming an organ donor. This life-saving gift to Earle, on two occasions, changed the course of his life and the lives of those who loved him so deeply.
