Bob Astley posted a condolence

Ian was a recognized leader in the actuarial community in Kitchener-Waterloo. I first encountered Ian through the K-W Actuaries Club when I was an actuarial student working at Mutual Life. Ian was articulate and impressive. Ian's influence on the profession at meetings of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries followed the positive example of his colleague Tom Suttie. I always enjoyed interactions with him and Fran over the years, including at Westmount Golf Club and in the Upper Beechwood 2 neighbourhood.
Judy and I send our sincere condolences to Fran and the family. Ian will be warmly remembered as a prominent citizen and effective executive, a good friend, and a keen and accomplished golfer.

One struggles with words that will fittingly honour the life of a man as kind, gentle, and caring as Ian. I knew him through his son, and my close friend, David. It's a testament to the modesty that the McIntosh family and their patriarch exhibited, that after all these years, Ian's many accomplishments only now fully come to light for me. I send my deepest condolences.
